It’s that time of year and my renewal notification from Carole Nash dropped on the mat with a thud this morning. With bated breath and heart pumping I opened the envelope and peeped inside expecting a huge increase the same as we had this year for the SLK and home cover. L said go on then how much are we paying for it to sit in the garage not being used much.
Surprise, surprise its nearly a hundred quid less that last year. £479 for fully comp, breakdown, legal protection and excess protection. Bearing in mind the modifications and having to start from zero no claims bonus last after my rest from biking. I am well happy with that.
Just did a compare exercise on the net and was even more surprised to see the CN renewal is cheaper than I can get from the others, and even more surprised how many companies declined to quote with the mods. If this continues like this a Pannigle might make a lot more sence as the only thing I would really want to change on it would to fit a termi exhaust. Worth checking it out next year me thinks.

    Result David, congrats.

Mine went up £50 this year, can't quite work out why. I was going to kick up but several others I know had the same issue so my lazy bone took over and I thought "fcuk it, just get on with it". I'll make a fuss once I've put a bit more distance between me and my accident so more underwriters will find me an attractive asset to their bank accounts.

I just got my quote through, multi bike for the Blade and GSXR £560 with 4 years NCB from Carol Nash, £418 from Swinton I do have to wait 3 months for £80 cashback though, so £496 outlay.
Both sound a lot of money to me when I used to pay £250 fully comp for the old blade with no NCB at the time.

I just called CN to see if I can get the premium down a bit more. Get this, I told them I now have an Oxford alarmed disc lock and fcuk off HD chain fixed to the floor. Guess what the premium went up !!!!!!!!!. how stupid is that !!!!!!. So told them to renew it without the chain or disc lock then, it then went back to what they had originally quoted. The guy tried to explain that it was because the replacement cost of the security items had been added and in the case of theft or fire they would be either damaged or stolen and therefore add to the overall cost of the claim. We have a similar thing with our home insurance when we had a safe fitted. The premium went up, not much but it went up. I said right oh then why don’t we leave our watches and jewellery lined up on the window sill then. What is the world coming to when protecting the asset costs more than not bothering?
When the powers that be finish investigating the banks and the media, the insurance industry should be next.

It's one of my pet arguments against system automation. Rather than paying for a geezer to assess risks in each particular instance, a computer programme has all the costs and variables punched into it and calculates a price based on repair and replacement costs. So it looks at your safe and your disc lock as accessories to be included in the risk rather than the common sense approach of seeing them as protection of their risk.

Hence things like grab rails (safety), braided hoses ( safety and damage risk reduction), non OEM tyres ( safety and risk reduction) and brighter headlight bulbs ( safety and risk reduction) are sited by the likes of Bentnnets as being undesirable.

The human, or common sense, factor is no longer available in the equation.

    Progress.

That's Just stupid! I can't believe making your bike harder to steal is more expensive!
I would call back and ask how much cheaper it will be if you leave the keys in the ignition

Not wanting to be facetious mate, but clearly you can’t, what was the current tally 9 bikes, 9 crashes. I would avoid fishing as well, knowing your luck you will only end up falling in with a fish hook imbedded in your testicle.

New insurance documents arrived this morning. I had a read thought to make sure all the info is correct, and then noticed the renewal price had dropped. They had said £479. But document says £459. Rubbed my eyes and looked again, yep £459. I was thinking it was a typo but new envelope opened was my credit card bill. Carole Nash has taken £459. That’s a reduction of 16.5% on last year.

What a result and a nice surprise to boot. Oh and its not raining either.
