    Hi all

After researching and deciding on my new tyres (Dunlop Sportsmarts) I find that funds are a bit low at the moment so I can't get them as quick as I'd like,

I was thinking of putting a pair of scrubs on for road use to get me through the mot and summer, then she could have new ones end of season of beginning of next.

What's your thoughts?? I've always steered clear of part worns but it seems that they are more popular with bikes. There's a shed load of decent looking tyres that have just done a session or two on the bay. I'll be using them for road use only.

Any advice or opinion gratefully received

    Nick

I think there's a thread on this somewhere on here?
Im Sure there was a lot of concerns about heat cycles that the tyres have reached during their "couple of laps?"
Personal choice at the end of the day.
But ask yourself, would you be comfortable not knowing their true history?

I've toyed with the idea of getting some from time to time and I do think that on the forums (whatever vehicle it is) we do occasionally get a little nerdy and obsessed with the minute details about things like this but the way I figure it, you've probably spent a load of money on the bike, the mods, the leathers etc etc etc. It makes no sense to skimp on the last little bit that actually connects all that stuff to the road. You can get a decent quality pair of boots for £175.

scrubs are fine if you know the history of them (trust the seller) as far as track goes, but for the road,do you really think heat cycles matter?

for me they are a no brainer.you can get a good set for 80-100 quid that has very little wear on the middle of the tyre (where road tyres tend to wear the most....) thats a good 100-160 cheaper than a new set, obviously depending on what you go for.

1 thing to be carefull of though is getting the soft compounds.stay away from k1 or sc1'rears as these will square off in no time.fronts aren't as bad.

if you want a good set, drop me a pm.

The past 2 summers i've gone thru 3 sets of scrubs ( 2pair of metzler racetec k1 front k2 rear and a pair of dunlop gp racer 200 section rear ). I used them mostly on the road but also did a couple of TD's and had no problems at all in fact i found them confidence inspiring with the massive amount of grip, bought them off a good source and the only reason i'm not running them at the mo is i needed tyres in the off season so opted for sportsmarts.

I have no problem using scrubs, my only issue is finding someone willing to fit tyres they've not supplied. Bought myself a beadbreaker so I could change my own, only problem is it's a bit of a two handed job otherwise you can easily scratch your rims. They're really sticky and already scrubbed in and so what if they don't last that long they're still miles cheaper than new!
