MK1 CBR900RR Fireblade

    Hi everyone,

    Hoping you may be able to help.

    I am on the verge of purchasing a CBR900RR 1993 MK1. It has 42k on the clock, no service history, but appears to be in good nick. They are wanting £2,500, is it worth that and are there any problems I need to look out for?

    Is it going to be your only bike?

    With that mileage I would be looking for lots of service history just so there is no nasty surprises after purchase.

    Are you buying it to keep it? Collect it? Or just a bike to ride?

    Eitherway it comes condition and price!

    If you looking keeping to it goes up in value then it needs to be original as possible. The first generation blade will be worth more in the future if it's a good one!

    Ditto, on that age the svc history is not as critical if its been owned by an OCD car valeter who only used it on sunny days and washed it in tepid water with a lambswool mitt !!! Condition.... Condition and then.... well you get the idea. It must be good for that price, if not, then walk away.

    It doesn't have any service history, but I would be buying it from a reputable bike dealer. I'm buying it to keep, collect and also use, that is why I want to get it as original as possible.

    Seems alot of money to me, my brother was looking at 01/02's for not much more than that with less than half the miles

    Th are going up n price due to popularity and people wanting to collect them. But even buying from a main dealer I would be concerned with no service history.

    I bought a fazer 5 years ago, seen it, and service book, genuine miles. Was old I was the second owner. Wen I got the log book found out I was owner no 4.not pleased and was a huge motorsport backing dealer ship

    I have a 93 & love it.

    I paid £1800 with full history & 24k miles.

    It was a bit of a shed though & I have spent a few years restoring it.

    It rides real nice now although I don't use it much (also have a 10 plate).

    You need to budget for full suspension service & replacement of all bearings.

    The engines are failrly bullet proof but the clutch, carbs etc may need tlc.

    The electrics can be problematic.

    Good quality body pannels are like hens teeth.

    If you want a restore job, they can be had much cheaper. If you want a good example which is ready to go, that is about what you will need to pay imo.

    Just looked on ebay mate RRN in black 26000 miles, in quite good nick (even has a spare rear number plate/mud guard full length) item no. 271008708437 for £2400 including ohlins rear shock and fork internals.

    I have bought two bikes previously from the dealership and had no problems. They are a small dealership and in my experience that is far better than a large group. Small is beautiful as they say!

    if youve got the cash major take your time plenty out there buyers market....check out all the usual sites bike trader,MCN,E bay happy hunting!!

    I've bought it! :D

    Should get it next week sometime, after it's been serviced/M.O.T'd etc.

    My first blade was an RRN, absolutely the best blade I have owned. Put 55,000 miles on it with no problems and every time it was serviced the old oil was like new. Had a K+N air filter and dynojet kit fitted along with braided lines. One small point as was mentioned earlier the suspension was pretty shot at and could have done with replacing.

    Good to know it was that good for at least 55k. Where would you recommend I go to get the suspension checked, a specialist or a honda dealer?

    I have had a RRX from new and now has 54K on the clock and runs perfectly, The valves needed reshimming at 48K for the first time, it has a Ohlins shock, K&N and jetting and braided lines, the only thing I have had to change outside service stuff is front brake discs, they seem to last about 15K, a thermosat and one headlight bulb. It runs on Halfords semi and does not use any oil at all.
    I expect to get many many more miles from it, hope you have many miles of fun with yours too......

    Suspension specialist everytime mate, the only thing that Honda dealers specialise in is ripping you off! I used Kais at Atherton near Wigan but I'm sure there'll be a reputable specialist nearer to you.
