I'm trying to buy a new lid at the moment. My Arai's in good nick but the whole time I've owned it I've been very aware that it's a flippin' noisy old thing and....well.....I just fancy a new one :D

I'm having massive problems finding one that fits right though. I've got a loooong head. ie it's much bigger front to back than it is side to side. Kinda like a rugby ball. My current Arai Viper GT is now a discontinued model and it's the only one I know that's specifically designed to accommodate this shape of noggin.

Anyone else got this problem or able to suggest another make and model?

You've just gotta go try them on, although Arai are the best if you've got a head the same shape as an angel fish.

Make sure you also try different shell sizes, as well as different pad inserts.

My HJC RPHA-10 is proper cosy/snug. Very light (1.2kg), and quiet.

I tried one of those HJCs the other day and it was about the best of the bunch that I'd tried, mate. I'm going to go back tomorrow and try it on again. It was super light. Just had a slight bit of forehead pressure. I normally wear a medium despite the fact that my head measures 59cm.

My HJC is really quiet. No booming or wind noise gets past the padding to my ears at all.

I may be wrong but can't you get different type of padding/lining fitted to arai to make it fit better

I've got an old IS 16. Probably overdue a replacement but it's like a favourite pair of slippers. I like the Matt black an the internal sun visor's been handy on occasion.

I've got the same shaped head and normally have the same problem. Loads of lids give me a headache from being really tight against the front and back of my head.

Found Arai and Shoei to be the most likely to fit and it is just a matter of trying a few on. Bought a Shoei Qwest recently which fits very comfortably if that helps.

    I guess I'm part alien.

    Blimey, that's a special melon you've got :)

Good luck and if you do find something I'd be interested to hear what.

i have an unusually small head, even my kids can't get my lid on, haha means out of all the helmets on sale at the time, every make, every price band, the only one that fitted me was the shoe xr1000, in the smallest size, with the largest cheek pads.. even then it twists round on my head in wind, making shoulder checks almost impossible on motorways, my mirrors have to be flawless..

not looking forward to having to get a new one in a couple of years, its now 4 years old, and the lining can't be removed for cleaning.. :(

Good things come in small packages, eh? :D

Seriously though, sounds like a nightmare. An uncomfortable helmet is a proper pain.

Speaking of cleaning. I put the liner and cheek pad covers from my Arai in the washer last night and whilst refitting the visor this morning I snapped part of the base plate off
