Today sees the day when one of our most esteemed colleagues throws off the shackles of oppression and becomes his own man in his dotage.

Yes Megawatt will be post nuclear after his last shift at Dungenness power station and will be a man of leisure from this weekend forward (so not much on the surface will change).

Time to reflect and look back on his many contributions to the field of Nuclear Physics.

The Solvay Conference of 1927. The great and the good meet to debate the future of the fledgling science of quantum physics and its contradictory presence in the established relativistic universe.

But who is the shadowy figure leaning on Werner Heisenberg's shoulder...?

Heisenberg was uncertain...and that got him thinking...

His light, or more accurately, his glow. A side effect of eating too much Ready Brek as a child, could not remain hidden under his bushel for long and British Nuclear Fuels soon came knocking at his door.

True, the first day on any job can be intimidating, and some mistakes can be made, but nothing our Al' couldn't take in his stride.

There were bad times, yes. Sometimes the works outings didn't quite live up to the hype.

But this was nothing the man of Boron Dust could not take in his stride.

So what next for our hero. Some readjustments will have to be made, yes. His lifelong dedication to nothing but his work caused some embarrassment on handing back his Hazmat suit and realising it was the only decent suit he owned.

    But this too will pass.

So here we are, awaiting him being escorted off the premises for the very last time.

    What next?

Who knows, perhaps the Mighty Megawatt has a surprise left for us even at the last throw of the dice.

    Good luck Alan.

    From all your mate

    XXXX

    Ken

Only just seen this, thanks Ken that was brilliant! Yep I'm 53 and taken early retirement with 37/80 of my wages as a pension and a shitload of cash to invest? for my dotage. Gonna have to work again , but gonna give it a few months, Gonna do a bit of fabricating and zorsting for pocket money and when i need to, will work full time at a windfarm or National Grid place for silly money. Hope to see some of you guys soon, but can't make the Ace bash.

The only reason it was missing in the first place was he had it in his locker. He didn't like the idea of photons having mass. It made his bike heavier when the lights were on.
