Olympic Lanes Hi all, Anyone know if motorbikes are allowed in the olympic lanes springing up everywhere. Will mainly affect those in and around London but I believe they are all over the country for various events. Had a look on the getaheadofthegames.com website but cant see anything apart from its a £130 fine if you go in them.
Not seen any signs saying bikes can go in them, so safe to presume they're not allowed. Bicycles aren't even allowed in either, afaik.
Jesus i thought the games were over after being board shitless every time i put the news on with the obsession for some clown to actualy win a poxy game of tennis we now have to be force fed Cricket FFS and the Olympics is something i can't even think about nevermind watch. On a sub note isn't it typical of this country to get the biggest sporting event going only to rape the general public by having these lanes and no doubt there will be some arsehole hidden behind a bus shelter with a camera what a crock of horse shit.
No need for people behind bus shelters, there's so many cameras covering round here you feel like Posh & Becks out on the tiles any time you go anywhere! They also park these up around the place too (usually on double-yellows):
We have these in Manchester only trouble they hide behine walls and scope up .Bus lanes and eating apples is the main scorce of income.

you know - my firm is on the olympic delivery managing the construction, hardly done anything but they would have the world think we built it single handed.... we've had it down our throats for the last three years!! and i still didnt get a f8cking ticket....
I think some events start earlier - i had an email from the Transport of London saying from the 18th...?
I will try and have a word with contacts at TfL and/or LOCOG today and confirm if bikes can go into the Olympics lane. I don’t think so but will confirm back as soon as I can. Whilst on the subject of the Olympics, we were getting totally racked off with the whole thing and have booked annual leave to avoid the congestion and general commuting nightmare. But then, last week we have been told we have two tickets to the closing ceremony. Ladies beach volleyball would have been better but beggars can’t be choosers. So after all we are quite looking forward to it now.
I'm all for a bit of sport etc. but I can't get the little voice out of my head; "total waste of money", I really do think those billions could be spent in a far better way, i.e The National Health Service ??? Personally I'm already bored with the whole thing and all it's going to do is cause traffic chaos for a lot of people who have to get to work every morning, not everyone has access / time / tickets to go see this event. Fortunately I'm leaving for the Alps on the 28th so maybe I'll miss all this bollox, still I do like watching the fit birds in action...

Prob is mate the Nhs doesn't generate any return on the investment. And it's still debatable but some think it might even turn out a profit. Plus the benefit of world class facilities throughout London left after the games in areas which were crying out for regeneration, it's not all bad. Also olympics has kept thousand of people employed during a recession, IMO once they are done, unless their is an upturn in the economy (not likely) there will be a lot of people looking for alternative work. In my industry for sure... Still not got a ticket though, and my commute and work will be f*cked for a month so still a ball ache!!
Fair point(s) and I'm sure there will be a profit but the Fat Cats will get that, not the people that really need it ! There was an interesting debate on Radio 4 yesterday (not my normal listening) regarding care for the elderly, any profit should be directed there and not put towards the latest Jag for some fu*ckwit bank manager / politician / Seb Coe, sadly that's probably where it'll go... I will be giving London a wide berth for the next few weeks !
Not much chance of turning a profit, as no games funded by the host country has turned one in the past, afaik. I live near the Olympic Park and have benefitted in a small amount by the Games, but still wouldn't advocate the huge cost going into them. Agree with Jimbo that it provided employment in a downturn but that money could have been used to do that in more profitable ways, I reckon.
think beijing was reported at $14b?? but that is prob influctuated... one in america returned £250m....
