Hi all, im normally just a 'lurker' but I'm after some advice... On sunday I finally got out on the bike for the first time in a couple of very wet weeks, and noticed there was moisture/water droplets behind the digital dash. No idea how it got there - not had that before, and I've not allowed the bike to get wet for a while. It's dried out now - I used it today and realised it's left water marks where the moisture formed originally, which is annoying me as I'm a real perfectionist and always look after the bike meticulously. Should I take it into my dealership and ask them to replace the dash? Is this a common issue? Thanks, Sam
Thanks MrB - I'll be on the phone to them tomorrow to book her in! I meant to call them today but didn't get chance at work
A tip here! I have a small sheet of thin plasic the type they put on your car seats at service time,i fold it then stuff it around the clocks and over both handle bars so water doe's not get into the electrics when i wash the bike ,the other thing i do is stretch a silicone glove over the exhaust outlet for the same reason..
Thanks for the advice and tips guys. I'm very careful not to spray water directly over the dash or exhaust outlets, but from now on I'll be covering the dash when I wash it. It doesn't stop the rain getting onto It though when I'm out in the rain, but I'd expect a new bike to cope with that to be honest...
Anoher tip to help with the claim tell the dealer the dash condenses with water obstructing the speed display it's obviously then a safety issue.
Cheers, I'll chuck that into the conversation and see how it goes. My local dealer have been faultless so far so I hope that continues
Its funny how in all the years the "motorcycle" has been around they seemed to have lost how to make a set of clocks water proof!..lol
Lost me, you mean to save money they fit a naff seal and cheap LCD display... problem with all these large format displays is they condensate and need to be vented to the air, the sudden changes in temp not helped by the fact you have a large display that acts like a condenser when moved from a cool area into warm surroundings. They seem to struggle with venting the air inside of the dash and maintain a seal from water, if it was proper it would be sealed in a vacume.
Yep thats about the size of it. I'm sure if enough owners start reporting the same fault then I would hope they look at modifying. So far mine has been OK. Yamaha have had a few issues with this on the XTZ1200/660 and will only replace if the condensation obscures the speedo. eta - non digi dash
It's many models mate, Ducati whole 1098-1198-D16RRs range are bugged by the same problems as well as many jap bikes too, Ducati revised the dash but the new ones are just as bad, the main problem is they don't climatise well! Hence why I say you would think after all these years they would be able to make lights and dashes that don't have this problem..
