On Essex Radio this morning, Essex Police are having 'purge' on illegal number plates, bikes, were not specifically mentioned but no doubt to increase the success rate of the operation, bikers will become easy targets. Fines of up to £1,000 can be issued for repeat offenders The operation starts this weekend
£1000! Where have they got that from!!! It's a £30 FPN (n) offence! I like to see them try and get a conviction on that!
LoL, was in the Essex on Tuesday. Rode past Blue Water & Essex Po-Po had on display all the cars the ANPR cars had knocked for no insurance. They love it. Can't blame them.
I got done last year fine was £60. (On the A130 near Chelsford Essex on a Sunday morning 6.30am ) and 28 days to provide photographic evidence of legal size plate on bike, or bike re-registered with Q plate
The £1,000 fine is what the courts can fine if it is decided to issue a summons rather than a fixed penalty ticket.
And if it does then what a load of shite, bloke this week was in court for his 147 shoplift offence. 50hrs community servive is what he got!
i got pulled last year - given a fine and was told that if caught again the DVLA will put my bike on a Q plate... Can they do that? don't have that bike any more, so did not have the chance of getting pulled again..
would'nt dream of a smaller plate here, guaranteed the first police car that see's you will give you a nice ticket.
Well apart from the fact that there is always the option for doing the rider for attempting to pervert the course of justice, the reason that many forces clamp down on small plates is due to the increasing number of incidents that have involved bikes and then scarpered and the plate (although I appreciate it could be a cloned number) is too small to be read, and in some cases even cameras have difficulty picking up the registration numbers, and as a result you get constant and regular offenders taking the p1ss! Now, I am not going to babble on about how we should all be law abiding and, and ,and, but the question I have which is meant in all seriousness is that 99% of you know the rules, whether it be the size of your rear plate, excess speed or whatever, and yet when you get stopped or booked there is a tendency to whinge about it. The question I ask is Why? If you choose to ignore the rules that everyone else has to abide by, and you make a conscious choice to ignore those rules, then why do people bleat about it when they are caught? People refer to speed traps. What speed traps FFS? The only people who put themselves in the position of believing they were trapped are those who chose to ignore the speed limits in the first place, and if someone states that they cannot ride at 30 in a 30, then they have a major problem with their riding skills and ability. I like most riders like my speed, and I will admit that I have been known to "make progress" on more than one occasion, but I also accept that if I get caught I cannot blame anyone but myself, firstly because I got caught, and secondly because I know what the rules are (especially in posted limits) and so it is my fault. And yet people still whinge for being caught out by their own lack of observation, ability and and/or a failure to accept that the rules apply to all of us not just a select few.
Hi T.C, I agree with most of what you have said but here's my view; "The rules apply to all of us not just a select few". The amount of police officers that are either in or out of uniform, that speed is shocking and some of their driving is questionable to say the least. "People refer to speed traps. What speed traps FFS?" The biggest issue is most of the police officers are hidden at the side of the road either in a car or on foot, speed camera van's that are hidden in the shadows of a bridge/trees or bushes. They hide them to catch people, this is what a trap is, to ensnare. Why not have a more visual deterrent, still have police officers or speed camera vans but don't hidden them away. Oh, I know why, they wouldn't make as much money from them! Speed in it's self is not the greatest killer, you could be doing below the speed limit and still cause serious damage to someone or even kill them, it's the poor standard of driving, not paying attention to your surroundings or what you are doing at the time. You speed through a town or past a playground, school or any other areas where it's either a 20 or 30 zone, you deserve to get nailed. But in a NSL zone, commonly referred to by a traffic cop friend of mine as a (No speed limit zone) a more common sense approach should be used, i.e. clear view, good surface, bike/car in good condition, bike/car being ridden/driven in a sensible manner, but a speed camera does not allow for this. A police officer can make a judgement call based on their knowledge or what they have just witnessed. I believe education is a far better tool, give people the knowledge to be better drivers/riders. I have held a driving licence for over 24 years and never had any points at all (I'm no Angel), why, because I only break the NSL when the conditions allow and I take a sensible approach to speed. Here end the sermon
If the law was the law the murderers who get life would get life and the MP's who stole would have got the the bloody jail not what suited the the prosecutor at the time theft is theft no matter who does it except when a thieving scum bag is an MP..... after that then preach to the rest of us ..... who actually pay our taxes.... unlike some of the rich people that supposedly love the UK
I agree 100% with your sentiments, but what you are referring to is a separate issue. The job of the Police is to obtain the evidence and put individuals before the court, and it is the courts who decide on the appropriate penalty. And I agree that in many cases the penalty does not fit the magnitude of the offence or is disproportionate. However, this is where the CPS falls down because in most cases they have no backbone and will often recommend proceeding with lesser offences, where many coppers would be happy to at least give the more serious offences a spin, so at least then if it was decided that the lesser offence was more appropriate, at least the prosecution will have been seen to have at least tried. And in respect of sentences, again I agree in a lot of cases, but it also has to be borne in mind that we do not get the full transcript of the trial and the press will often make things out to be different or interpret the evidence to make it sound worse than it was as headlines sell papers. It is very easy to make a judgement on a conviction when we are given only a fraction of the evidence, and we are given the evidence that the press want us to read.
What happens is the rich people including MPs have better lawyers then us workers so they can afford to go that extra hog and the CPS backs down ... what is really about we are easy pickins if we decided that we want to go to court 2 things happen with regards to fix penalties we get a high penalty and pay court costs with the likes of the the richer people the CPS knows that they might take it court so he decideds not either prosecute or decides to make a deal with there said lawyer... and that's the way of life and sorry but the police and the CPS know this
small plates Hey guys didnt want to start debate on rights and wrongs just wanted to post a warning notice if you do ride with an illegal plate in Essex at the moment
