Something i have never done, though i did buy a pair a few years back never got around to wearing em! Now i need a bigger pair.. lol I have a pair of these, paid full price for mine a while back are are great..but sometimes i do find em uncomfortable.. Esquad E-Strong Jeans - FREE UK DELIVERY How uncomfortable would it be for wearing leather bottoms for the first time? i guess they will need breaking into...or my legs will need to get use to them.. and i guess on a hot day your legs must roast and be a pain to get out of em?
not a question about comfort mate, if you value your skin, get some!! but once worn for a few ride outs, decent leathers are so comfy to ride in, plus you have that added comfort knowing you have given yourself every chance of protecting yourself if the worst happens. i wont go out on a proper ride without my full leathers on.
Wear a base layer under the leathers and it helps to stop the sweaty stickyness and makes taking the leathers off easy. All the usual bike places sell base layers or you can get them from sportsdirect or other clothing places, they are made out of special material (supposedly) that helps to wick away perspiration, I always use them, help to keep you cool in the summer and warm in the winter. I think leathers are like any new clothing, once you have worn them a couple of times it becomes normal and you don't give it a second thought.
Fair point, how many sizes bigger should i go from then my waist? I have a alpine stars jacket, i assume bottoms should just jop on to these.. Want to do a track day so think i will invest in a set.
Try them on before you decide a size Sam. The fact that they're leather means that the cut is so different that your normal clothes size doesn't matter much, especially as many makes are based around foreign sizing which doesn't necessarily match up to UK (correct) sizing. Agree with Jimbo though, my Dainese leathers fit like a glove and I can wear them all day. My RST textiles make me sweat more.
They feel a bit restrictive to start mate but you saw my leg, well put it this way if I weren't waring them when I was knocked off I would be getting my gear lever converting to the right gand side if you get what I mean
Im am finding it difficult to picture you getting on the bike like that.. lol.. but i get the point.. My wife suggested i buy a pair and sleep in them - i had to explain to her these are leathers not shoes! lol
well, i will go over comfort.. quite a bit of choice here! http://www.bikestop.co.uk/clothing?cat=37 I guess i could pop into HeinGerike and try a pair on for size..
It hasn't occurred to you that her suggestion had more to do with wearing them 'out' rather than wearing them 'in' Sam?
My brother wares his infront of the tv for a day before trying to ride in them as they do stretch a little
lol.. How about these..i think the price is reasonable..? RST Slice Jeans - Red - FREE UK DELIVERY or RST Tractech Jeans - Red - FREE UK DELIVERY
I would Deffinately try some on mate as they all have a different fit so sizes and comfort vary quite a bit, some makes I can't ware because I'm too tall and some my mate can't ware cos he's a midget! ( he can't ride anything but his vfr 400 and he can Only just touch the floor on that) lol
I got out my alpinestars that I bought a few years back..and I managed to get myself in them..got the jacket and boots on...sweating like a dog! The length were fine, maybe little tight around the waist..but ok. Then I thought right I need help getting all this off... Are the knee sliders below the knees? I will pop into a shop to try something different for feel..
If your not wearing leather then get some ASAP . If you do come of at speed they could save your life

As others have said, you definitely have to try them on for size. It's not like saying "I'm a 34 waist in clothes so these should fit as well". If I were you, I'd drop into Hein Gericke at Braintree or Gants Hill (depending on where you are) as they are fantastic at helping you pick out the right ones for you and telling you what you need to look for when buying leathers. Not necessarily. Zips aren't universal and you'd even have trouble getting zips from the same manufacturer to sit right if you get different sized trousers to jacket. I went up an Astars jacket size but could still wear the same trousers so upgraded just my jacket, which usually comes with both parts of the zip so you can get the bottom (unattached) part sewn onto whatever trousers you want to pair it with so that they zip perfectly. Mine cost £10-20 at a local place. Also echo the other comments - once you go leather, you'll love it! The first time I bought a 2-piece Astars suit and wore it back from the shop I was amazed at the difference it made to my riding, which is largely psychological but I know I wouldn't want to do any spirited riding in jeans.
Gary a pal of mine and Dave V's bought some from there, great service apparently and the eathers he bought were decent price and looked brand new!
I have textile bottoms and raggen jeans but would much rather be in leathers. I have a Dianese 2 piece, very comfy and BKS made to measure 1 piece and very very comfy. As said wear a base layer, I find winter or Summer you can't beat the EDZ all in one under-suit. even in hot weather it's great and makes it easy to remove when sticky
