Just got my email confirming I was within the first 250 to register so get a coffee, bacon bap and some Garmin goodies..! w00t! Bet the bap and coffee offer doesn't stretch to my pillion tho!
Got nothing except this email: Good news. You have a confirmed place on our first ever Garmin zumo Ride Out on 4th August 2012. On the day you'll not only get some suggestions on where to have a good ride around the Cotswolds, but you'll also be able to meet Charley Boorman, chat to the guys from RiDE magazine and get an exclusive first-look at the brand new Garmin zūmo 350LM with Lifetime maps. Please feel free to turn up at any time between 9 and 4pm. We look forward to seeing you at On Yer Bike in Aylesbury, A41 Bicester Road, Westcott. Bucks. HP18. Garmin UK
I dont think the Tomtom is capable of doing this...or is it? Searching for the perfect back road to share with your riding buddies? Or perhaps you’re planning a cross-country trip and looking to avoid as much motorway as possible? With its powerful trip planning tools, zūmo 220 can help you create custom routes via computer and then transfer your saved journey directly back to the unit. Once home, you can review your rides in Google™ Earth. In addition, microSD™ card expansion makes it easy to share routes and add extra storage capacity. Pay a visit to Garmin Connect™, our online community of routes and riders. It’s a great resource for finding new rides, sharing travelled routes and planning trips.
Has anyone going on this managed to get hold of the maps yet? I thought they were going to be available to download onto your satnav before the day, but can't see owt in the emails. Maybe they're expecting you to load them when you arrive at Ducati Aylesbury? Or loan you the new 350LM for the day, which would make sense as that's what they're promoting.
There is a free third-party program called TYRE that will let you plan routes on your PC with great flexibility and control, and download those routes to your TomTom. I have seen a number of favorable comments on the web about TYRE and have yet to see any negative comments about it - except that it will not work with the latest models of TomTom. That issue is the fault of TomTom limitations, not TYRE. TyreToTravel - find, create and share routes Download Tyre - make your own touristic routes
Tyre is very good, although is a bit buggy & laggy at times so my tip is to use Google Maps to plan your route with more finesse and less irate moments, then copy the link to the route you've created and use the 'Import from website...' option in Tyre to load the route that way.
Yeah, I was sure I read you were supposed to download the routes yourself before but will rock up on Sat and see what the deal is. If no maps then I'll follow Charley boy for a bit then show him a clean pair of wheels when I get bored!
Hmm, the plot thickens... I've just found a copy of RiDE from the other month that included an article about tomorrow's rideout. It was there that I saw that you need to download the routes beforehand, but the URL they give for the event no longer works: http://www.garmin.com/uk/zumorideout Bah!
After doing some digging, it appears as though the .gpx file can be downloaded from RiDE's web-site here: RiDE Routes http://www.ride.co.uk/upload/Ride Magazine/GPX files/ZUMO RIDE OUT.GPX.zip although it's only a single .gpx file so not sure if it's got all 3 routes on there or not, until I get to upload it to the Zumo. Reckon it may just be this route: Garmin Zumo Ride Out - Motorcycling trip | EveryTrail
It works ! Thanks ! All three routes ( bronze, silver, gold ) are in the file. Just unzip and import-export via base camp.
Well, apart from getting shafted by Garmin who very kindly gave out all their goodybags to anyone they liked rather than those who had been assigned them, it was a good day out. At least the catering van upheld their end of the bargain and supplied an excellent (and large) bacon bap and huge coffee - even if I did mistake the chilli sauce for ketchup so had a bit of a shock on first mouthful! I thought the route choices were excellent, so will be keeping those for future reference. We went through the Cotswolds to Cheltenham and back a few months ago so I could see my previous routes on the satnav as we followed Charleyboy's route, but yesterday's took in some better roads and backways. Good mix of fast flowing roads and country roads, I thought.
Unfortunately I got nothing and it started to rain, Haaaaaaaaaaaaa One young guy from Garmin couldn't answer my simple questions and even didn't asked if I signed in for the event. But anyway, it was a good day out........
What time did you go? We were pretty late and it took 1h20 to get there so didn't arrive till 2pm. Plenty of bikes there but didn't see any other Blades. The RiDE photographer took a photo of my bike as it had bit of space around it so it may be in next month's issue although it was filthy and still got the cracked nose cone on, so hopefully not! Saw Charleyboy, had a drink and butty, picked up some good sale bargains in OnYerBike (are you listening HG!?), then set off for the blast although by that time everyone had done the route I think as only saw one other couple on the route whilst stopped in Deddington.
I arrived late as well, around 2:50 p.m. and went straight to the Garmin tent Like I said, the Garmin bloke was just standing around and when I asked him about the Routes etc. he told me that everybody goes on his own…………. My Repsol was the only Fireblade I could see, so I just talked to Tony (Salesperson ), looked around a bit and made my own Garmin Ride home into the rain, Haaaaaaaaaa
Those who did the routes and enjoyed them, can they plot them on google maps or simlar and post a link up to them?
