Hi guys, thanks for your help so far this site has already really impresed!! i've heard about a flap in the airbox which is controlled by a servo and apparently its only really there for noise control? Supposedly better throttle response and a few extra brake mid range if you disconnect it? so question is... where is it and whats the best way to deal with it? Many thanks Chris.
Flapper mod does not give any more BHP, but it does ditch a little weight and gives a bit of room behind the left fairing. I've the flapper mod done and also ditched the PAIR system. There a few wirte-ups available onling showing you how to go about doing these mods.
it works on the 04-07 bike but doesn't give any gains to the later bikes. they reckon it improves mid range on the earlier bikes i did a lot of looking into this and loads of places confirmed this
yeah its much more simple on the earlier bikes compared to 08> as they work in reverse basically so the whole bifta needs removing.
Sorry to highjack the thread, has anyone gone to the trouble of replacing the intake with either a carbon fibre one or a modified intake with a clearer run to the air filters?
Yes, not me, but quite a few folk have done this. Loads of info on 1000RR.net. Take a look at this month's Performance Bikes mag - there's an article on an 07 CBR with intake flapper mod, including modded intake tubes. My opinion = pointless for a road bike.

That's what I was thinking, once you factor in the cost/time/effort. Don't think I'd notice the difference on the road. I wonder if the induction noise is increased?
Not much if at all. Opening the flaps and fitting a race filter would make much more difference to the intake noise I think.
