Bottle was empty by the time I got there, and had used my 250ml emergency / daily use top bottle too! 3.5 litres of oil in a week, belched like a diesel, would not start on return due to plug fouling and Honda told me time and time again this was all normal and nothing wrong with it.
What a joke. Get your act together mr Honda. You should be able to get this repaired under warrantee, I did.
OMG ! I thought the Youtube video entitled ''Hitlers Fireblade uses oil '' was the low point in Honda's RR8 oil usage dibacle, but this is just shocking. You should put this up on Youtube, there are already a number of other posts from people who have the same issue. This is the reason why i can not yet take the chance and buy the new shape blade.... its just a crazy situation that will only harm Honda in the long run, 3.5 litres in a week , get it back to Honda and shame them into rebuilding it. Good luck.
It got rebuilt - does not use anywhere near as much now This video is after the re-build and what happens if I don't start it for a few weeks following a long trip https://vimeo.com/16516120 password oilblade Honda's response 'your battery is flat and that is causing poor starting' - no , fouled plugs caused the bike not to start which made the battery go flat
There's been so much debate on here concerning this issue, some even getting heated, as to Honda's policy regarding the oil use in this incarnation of the FireBlade is acceptable or not. My personal opinion is, how can it possibly be as it doesn't appear that any other engine manufacturer, two wheeled or more, suffers it to this level. For whatever reason it occurs, whether by design or accident, it does not make the bike that much better than its peers to warrant the effort to combat it or the heartache should you fail to. For this reason alone I would never consider buying any of the models it affects, regardless of my loyalty to Honda generally and the FireBlade specifically. If I was looking to trade up I wouldn't even bother to look at one. Acceptable usage or not. It's not worth the hassle or ball ache.
It's fcuking disgraceful. Honda should either put their hands up and admit liability or hang their heads in shame. Just not acceptable to fill up with oil every time ya bang some tit in the tank. Unless its a stroker of course......hmmmmm.....cazzy R pre mix.....lurvley..
Mine is fine now - don't know why or how but after stupid amounts of miles (and the rebuild with new rings to solve it) I'm happy - but to that point it was driving me round the twist.
Glad to hear it. I got shot of my old TRX850 because it was doing my head in using oil at a rate of 1litre every 1000miles.
Same, my RR7 don't use a drop... IMO its balls all that Honda say re the oil problems! The US have it worse but I put that down to more miles and higher temps.... What's worse for me is the some do it and some don't rollox, makes it near impossible to say why they do it!
Is it possible that Mr honda also doesnt actually know how to fix the damn thing as some people have had new pistons and rings and still have issues
Exactly my position, can you imagine commuting on one...... say 10,000 miles a year, along with the 4 litres on the annual service that would be a total of 14 litres of oil in a year (going off what Honda says is ok)............. excuse me ! For the guys who have this model year blade and don't have the issue, that is great and you have been given good luck, but when you come to sell, a future (private) buyer could still look upon it with the same suspicion, because they like the rest of us simply do not know which are a problem and which are not. Not great for re-sale values. Until Honda sort this out once and for all in the next bike (which ever year that is), i will stick with my zero usage (oil) 2002 954 Blade.
Hi, Sorry to bring this topic back to the surface but what is honda is fitting with regards to the engine rebuilds? is it just the bottom end they are playing with? are they just replacing the piston rings with newer upgraded rings? upgraded pistons (3 ring type) and upgraded rings? both top end and bottom end? I have read that honda brought out an upgraded piston ring set that was fitted to the 09 models and that the 10- models got the new rings plus an addition of a third piston ring. I am only asking as am currently looking to upgrade my suzuki to a blade and wondered what honda was doin to the blades it did actually rebuild?
