Hi just wondering can anyone help regards getting a rear hugger for my blade it's a 2011 model with abs in repsol colours the hugger doesn't have to be in repsol colours black or carbon would be fine I'm led to believe the abs can be a problem have looked on eBay without much joy all the best gav
RGH0006BK Honda CBR1000RR (2008 onwards) Is the only hugger I know of that is specifically designed to accommodate the ABS blade. Have one on my bike and so far it hasn't set fire to the tyre or shattered into a million pieces. Haven't pulled any fat birds yet though (see other thread.)
Harris performance also make a carbon fibre version for around the same price of the R&G plastic 1. Powerbronze do 1 for it also, but having owned that I'd say stay clear. They look n feel cheap. It would be either the Harris or R&G for me. A few others have also put the larger non abs Honda hugger on without any problems.
Cheers cheers for the response was close to fitting power bronze one as only 85 English pounds at the moment but will check r&g and Harris website did have power bronze on my fz1 which did break around where it was bolted to swinging arm but one on my r1 still hanging in there
Hiya Gav. We have discussed this issue many times before. Honda do not recommend fitting the OE one. But, I had mine fitted by my dealer and it been fine, they only had to move a ABS pipe to the side slightly which they said was no problem, the only recommendation it you are carrying a lot of weight you might need to change the suspension settings. Others. I.e. Carl has had issues with fitting the small one catching the tyre but I have the OE large one on my 2011 and have had no issues with either the ABS box of tricks crashing into the hugger or the hugger itself catching the rear tyre. Having said that I don’t do fat birds.
What do you mean fat birds David, I best not pass that on to Angie? We have a combined weight of 151kg and the huger is wrecked?
Surprised at that. I'm not small to say the least but have had 20KG of luggage on the rear and not had any issues after touring Europe for 6 days
20 Kg of luggage is only about 3 stone. My missus is about 8 stone but I wouldn't risk taking her on the back with the hugger on. The pillion is sitting at the end of a lever and so has a much bigger effect than the rider.
cheers for response you would have thought honda would have fitted on as standard make life alot easier dont normally carry passengers be gratefull to take any lady on back big all small me thinks avit
just a note to say I brought a power bronze hugger on eBay new paid £75 which fits fine loads of clearance at the back went and filled up for fuel and still its behaving and hasn't dropped down so going to be brave and attempt to ride to work it does seem to have plenty clearance so would recommend if anyone is not sure which hugger to get
Mine came with a Powerbronze carbon fibre with the god awful gold mesh, it works, ain't broke, don't rub and the abs ain't bust....so that's a sort of recommendation I guess. The previous owner appears to have been into fitting aftermarket bits, obviously liked a bit of bling
