    Hello People

Just been watching the video guide for the exhaust flapper mod on the 2008-2011 blade.

    Looks very straight forward.

What are the pro's and con's (if any)?????

Is the flappers function purely for noise regulation? Or does it work in conjunction with the ECU in any way to control fuelling etc........

    Thanks in advance

    Mike

if its just for noise? why is there so much to it. they could have just made a smaller out let on the can ? cables/ motors .not a cheep way.

Noise regs at low rev range they have to do it to get them in!!!

If they altered the pipe ie smaller it would change the power etc and that would cost more than a flap and motor ;)

I tried this mod today and I thought that there was a slight flatspot when going off/on throttle at about 3000RPMs, so I reconnected the cable, and back to perfect fuelling.
TBH this makes me a bit reluctant to buy an aftermarket exhaust if it means that I have to get a powercommander to try to get the fuelling as good as it is standard (2011 blade)
Is this what others have found?

You do get a certain amount of induction noise as well as exhaust noise you know!

You and I seem to be the only ones who have noted a negative affect on fuelling after disabling the exhaust flapper.
Anyway, I now have an aftermarket exhaust and PCV and it fuels perfectly, but I didn't try the aftermarket exhaust with standard fuelling.

Any changes you make to the intake or exhaust will have some effect on fueling (AFR), no matter what you change you "should" remap the bike to match the changes (even if just small), one way to map the bike is fit a PCV or Bazzaz as most will know, manufactures that claim no mapping required only say so to sell units imo (and yes even Akra, what they mean is no harm will be done), if buyers thought they would have to add a PCV and custom map most would leave well alone as the price is up by around £500! A good few riders say "Ive not seen any problems" but maybe they just are not riding in the problem area or looking for flat spots etc. Imo what ever you change it has an effect, sometimes for the best and sometimes not! I always lump the cost of a remap or PCV if I change air flow in or out. Honda spend a lot of time meeting Euro3 regs and getting a good package to ride aound it there is no way changing it will not have an effect. As for AFR you will never know if its lean or rich unless its run up on the dyno as for power curve thats another matter, mapping the bike can only smooth it out and make for a better ride as no matter how hard Honda try to meet Euro regs and get a good ride it can never be as good as removing the clutter and mapping the bike... The blade is VERY smooth from stock imo.

The flapper is very simple, a vacuum from one of the inlet tracks draws out air(E-19/8) from a canister(6), when the ECU requests it activates a solenoid(5) that uses that vacuum to operate a actuator(3) that in turn operates the flapper, how did you disable it? Pulled off pipe and blocked it off? If so start the engine and feel for vacuum on the pipe. If you have vacuum then check your solenoid is plugged in, you can unplug the main actuator pipe and suck it hard to check it it opens and closes..

Don't let me put you off from modding your bike mate, its a catch 22 as Honda fuel it with the flapper, however removing the flapper should help to smooth out the transition from closed to open, problem is thats only half the job as mapping out that area is also required to get it bang on hence my post...

Thanks arthur.tried flap by hand and its free ,open and closes, tried it with bike running no vacuum at all from pipe when I put my tounge on it and revved it up,all I did was to pull flex off and cap it off,not disconnected anything else but as I say no vacuum from end of pipe now, have been thinking of putting it back on for a while just to see if there was any difference,to be honest I wanted it back to standard, your reply was just a kick up the backside to get it done,ha don't bloody work now though.was working perfectly before.ill fek awt up a will.lol

I think Arthur was thinking of the intake flapper in that post. Exhaust flapper is just operated by a motor

Yes, I have an 07 vtec VFR as well and the fuelling on that was atrocious in standard form with surging and flatspots etc. I have a PC3 and custom map, catless headers and pipes (of course) and the fuellung now is perfect but a lot was spent to achieve it.
The thing that impresses me with the blade is that the fuelling is as close to perfect as you want in standard form, and as you say Honda obviously put a lot of effort into getting it right and I am loath to go down the modding path on this bike because it is so good stock, and its basically money down the tube, not to mention attention from the plod who are red hot here.

You might have to return the wheel to it's standard position and the bike might have to be in gear for it to operate (can't remember)
