try eBike online insurance you have to go through a bit of pain filling everything in etc i struggled like mad when trying to get insurance for my CBR1000rr6 so i waited 5 weeks till i got 1 years NCD then it was 360 wingwangs for both my bikes
Not wanting to ask the blindingly obvious, but are you telling us all that without first getting a firm insurance quote you were happy with, you went out and purchased a high grouping supersports bike with zero no claims whilst living in the bike theft capital of the known world ? That does sound somewhat....... naive. The quotes you have shown us sound about right for your circumstances..... i would sell the bike and buy something a little more sensible for your age/location/experience and budget. Good luck.
Really feel sorry for you mate! Living in London n having no NCD is the problem. Not to put a downer on thing but I got mine on my first blade, age 36 with 5 year NCD for £126 third party n fire theft! Hope you end up getting it sorted n keeping the bike!!
Have just moved up to a Blade myself having passed my test just over a year ago. I wanted to get one in the summer but with only 9 months riding experience and not a full yr NCB best insurance was over £700!! Sorry but I'm nearly 40 and not paying that to bloody insure a bike no matter how much I wanted one. Waited to get my 1 yr NCB & riding experience and that price has dropped to less than £300, still a lot but more palatable. The lesson here though is I did the research BEFORE I parted with the bike money, it's madness not to do that, hope you get a deal you can live with but to be brutally honest I would be inclined to do as others have said and get shut of the blade and get something smaller and more insurance friendly for your age and experience. I have friends on 400's and I'm sorry but it ain't the bike it's the rider, these bikes can be thrown around and will keep up with much bigger bikes in the right hands. Learn your craft (in the insurers eyes, and come back to it later). Youu may find, as I did for the sake of that 1st years no claims, the price will drop a considerable amount.
fcuk me now i cant get insured!! MCE wont reinsure me cos i keep the bike at my dads (more than 2 miles away) never had any probs in the past, its safer there brick garage all alarmed up!!! tried the usual suspects Devitts ,bike devil, been thru the compare sites filled there forms in etc then press buy and it wont take my money phone em up and they say its because bikes not kept at insurers address, waiting on RAC to get back to me as they think they may av someone 2 hours what a faff!
Can you not just give your dad's address as being your address? If it's going to be kept there the majority of the time then that's where the policy should be registered at.
cant risk that can you imagine what would happen in the event of a claim address on V5 etc besides car insurance is registered at my home address and they all piss in same pot wouldnt take much to realise i dint live there. never had a problem before its the underwriters who av moved the goalposts not happy about insuring bikes not kept within 2 miles of home still waiting for RAC to get back to me .
I don't think there's any requirement for you to live solely at the address where your bike is insured, is there? Not sure if there's even a requirement for it to be the same address as on the V5, but you can always change that to your dad's address anyway. Car insurance being at a different address shouldn't be an issue either. After all there are plenty of people with more than one residence. Might be worth checking with a Broker, see what they say?
I think if it is over 1 or 2 miles away from home they tend to presume you will occasionally or more often favour just riding home as its too late or too dark etc to get between the 2 addresses, and just think you are just using the fact it's kept safe to lower the premium. Otherwise everyone would say stored in a garage and if got nicked at home it would just happen to have been at home because you ran in to change your socks lol. However if you were to live at your dads 51% of the time and your girlfriends house 49% of the time it would be perfectly legal
sorted! The girl at the RAC spent above an hour ringing various underwriters and came up trumps but at a price £240 a £80 increase over last year,BUGGER! Armour insurance i think she said will check when cover note comes.......
you really need to read the small print. mine was garaged more than 2 miles from home - got nicked - MCE told me that if it's not at home location then the excess doubles. I checked and it was in the policy (took me half an hour to find tho). That said MCE/Devil are the only ones that agreed to insure mine - London, driveway, 9+NCB (and one stolen bike - with them). So I don't complain about my 1k insurance... at the end of the day they've paid for the nicked one. I was also considering just getting a TP for half the price of TPFT... but you have to be 200% sure you store it safely...
Welcome Seb. I am a bit late into this thread so you might have it all done and dusted by now. Ok my age is now 50 and live in a rural location, however, after returning to bikes after an few years break I too had no NCB, as the past one was no longer taken into account. I was getting on line quotes of over a grand FC on a new blade in 2011. I called Carole Nash and explained the situation. i.e. having owned bikes for most of my life, including a couple of Fireblades ( the last one before my enforced retirement due to selling all the toys during a divorce) they listened to what I had to say and took it into account and reduced the premium to just over 500 quid (2011), which dropped to just over 400 this year. So, if you have something to say that will go in your favour call them up and see what happens. Its good to talk as they say. On line will only look at the risk without a full picture, however, if its your first superbike with no experience then I am guessing you are going to have to pay through the nose, and to some extent I agree, would I let my sons loose on a Fireblade without a fair few years honing riding skills. No. it’s a nightmare in the making for all involved. Sorry mate if that not want you want to hear, but it’s a fact of life.
Fcuks sake! Just recieved a letter acknowledging the receipt of my no claims, now and i quote Declaration of interim details......Please providean explanation for the apparent absence of your Motorcycle Insurance Cover between 22 october and 14 november. Your new Insurers require this information in order to confirm final acceptance of your policy.. So do i tell the truth ie. skint and had to wait for payday or some bullshit ie. on holiday can anyone forsee any problems wi me having no cover for that period THANKS
Just be honest mate, they are just checking you weren't repairing it after a crash, I had 10months off due to an operation they were fine with it. There are many genuine reasons why people don't, switch in bikes, holidays, too busy with work to ride, alsorts just don't tell them you were banned or crashed etc stuff you wouldn't want to here as an insurer You could tell them you were in prison for sh@gging your exhaust pipe in public and they will be fine with it
Some companies may allow a break in insurance, but I believe it varies. You'll need to check it out with your company. You can understand why this is - NCD is based on you paying your premium but not claiming, if you don't pay your premium, you can't have a NCD.
