Hi guys, I hope someone can help me with this. My alternator blew a couple of months ago (left me stranded in London....Fantastic !!!!). I had the pleasure of having to pay for the replacement because my bike was just outside the extended warranty period  and everything has been fine for a couple of months.

Last weekend took a run up to London and on the way home noticed the display would lose power on tick over and the horn sounded pathetic (when some twat pulled out on me). I immediately thought the alternator was on the blink again.

The display would come back on and the lights were good when the rev's were up so I decided to try and get home. I had to stop for fuel on the A3 and the bike would not start due to no power in the battery. I managed to bump start it and got within a mile of my house when the bike just stopped. No power anywhere.

Tried to get a jump start from a mate but it wasn't having any of it. I noticed the 30 amp fuse next to the battery was blown, changed it but still nothing. It wouldn't bump start either.

I bought a new battery, fitted it but there is no sign of life. The 30 amp fuse started to get hot and would have blown if I hadn't disconnected the battery.

So any ideas please? Apologies for the long winded post guys, but I'm struggling to understand whats wrong, I don't think it's the alternator because it seemed to be providing power when the bike was running.

Sounds like reg/rec has failed..! Unplug the 12V side and see if it still pops the fuse (12V side is the red and black)

Is this pretty much inevitable at some point or are any ealy rr4/rr4 bikes still running an original reg/rec?

Thanks Guys. I have just gone out to the garage and checked the rectifier. One of the terminals in the plug (rectifier side) goes direct to earth. I think you're right, the rectifier is fooked
Any recommendations for a replacement? OEM or pattern?

If I were you I would go oem.
About 80 quid the last time I checked.
Honda's eat rec/reg units like Suzuki's do tankslappers.

Yeah, you're right I will go OEM. It just goes against the grain after giving them £400 for a replacement alternator
