Looks nice in red! Only ever seen green ones oh and one blue which kinda looked wrong! Even at 1200 looks alot of bike for the money Looks like a good bike to go for, anything I should look out for when looking at them?
Engines are bullet proof an akra system and pipe releases a few horses, as said chassis is good, only down fall is front brakes originals are prone to sticking and difficult to bleed, bin them for 4 pot nissins problem sorted.
Has a few bits on it K&N's dyno'd carbs apparently, stubby micron, stainless headers, braided hoses, new chain and sprockets etc Done 20k tho! Is that a problem? Oh and it's a really rare colour
Awesome Had 2 myself, last one had a home brew 800cc race spec motor. Front brakes will go off, invest in some GSXR SRAD 4 pot tocikos, thicker fork oil and get the air gap adjusted correctly, a zx10r shock and 10mm ride height riser will see you fast a fook. trust me.
Yeh done the forks, just got an ohlins shock too. They run better with full length cans. Last one I had I sold with 34k to my mates lad it's now 50k with no problems so 20k is nothing Check out zx7r forum the red monkey one when u google Can't put link not good wiv computooors
Cool I will send an offer I think, don't think he will budge much but like I said its alot of bike for 1200 quid!
you have to remember there are not a lot of people buying track bikes at this time of year, plus you are buying it without testing it ,so worth giving a low offer. think along the lines of what it would be worth in pieces on ebay, a mate of mine bought one and got a lot of his initial outlay back by stripping and selling off the pieces he didnt need such as lights etc. you can always sell it for more money from april onwards when the track day season starts if you dont like it.
I have had two 1999 r1's both fantastic, with a few choice mods they can be as good as most modern bikes Ohlins shock, ktec from rebuild, full akra and your laughing on track, power wise they are down a touch on the new stuff but bang for buck you won't get a better handling bike for the money ! I loved mine and would have another tomorrow Also loads of good bits on the bay for reasonable prices to mod or keep her going
This ones completely road legal so can test it, also if I don't get on with it I will just sell in summer but if kept I would prob keep atleast a day mot on it
did you get sorted martin? YAMAHA YZF 1000 R1 2001 5JJ - LIGHT DAMAGE - REPAIR PROJECT OR TRACK USE ETC... | eBay
I'm lucky enough to have owned a couple of '98 R1's (back in 1999) The thing I remember most was how broad the tank was on the bike. The blade is really slim in comparison and you seem to sit more on the 'blade than in it. The front end on the R1 was also really flighty (even with a damper), but I loved it. Proper attitude shaking it's head and then charging on
Sorry, only ever rode one once, for a short time on the road, at the time i didnt think it was as quick as my own SRAD 750. Obviously i missed something. But a cheap fast good handling track bike? look no further than the GSXR750WX SRAD, i've never had a bike that was so happy to lean over until bits of stuff started to scrape that shouldnt. Just over 120 BHP at the rear wheel with a very few mods, lots of spares about, decent brakes which can be cheaply improved (ok, not as good as the blue spots), very quick if you keep them on the boil and not too bad for the larger chap, i was 105Kg and 6 foot and was really comfortable on mine.
I'm still looking for something to pop up, ideally I would like a 929or954 blade but they are too much cash really so looking more zx7 and GSXR at the mo but not found the right one just yet
