Fitted one on them about three weeks ago but usung a proper splitter/riveter tool. Without proper tool you would need to fit seals and plate then tap with a ball pein hammer and supporting the back with a square lump hammer. Not ideal but can be done.

Had it years but I think it came from M&P. It a very good quality Motrax 3 in 1 Chain Tool. It just folds over the pins evenly and neatly, while supporting the back of the link and holding on the front plate at the same time. Sure you could use a very small hammer or a centre punch but probably a bit trickier and you may not get as neat a job.

Same info from me too, used to use a hammer, punch and metal block...bloody awkward so bought a splitter riveter from MPS!
makes it much easier, even if you do worry you'll break the tool, lol

    I do it old school,
Two pairs of vince grips to press the side on level
Then with the aid of a helper holding a vice or sledge
To the back of the link I use a hammer and punch to
    Rivit it.

Depends how old the school was Phantom, in my day there was no such thing as rivet links, just split connectors and we used to take the chains off regularly and boil them up in a Duckhams tin of chain lube on the mothers cooker.

I've done a couple. I use an angle grinder to grind the rivet heads off and then use one of these to push out said rivets. Grinding the heads off reduces the strain on the pin. Then you just reconfigure the tool to rivet the new link in place making sure that you don't overdo it and end up with a tight link.

Fitted a DID chain last Friday night. Used a splitter/riveter. Had it about 8 years and done possibly 20+ chains. One of those items that I use rarely but rate highly. Definately worth spending a few quid on a decent one.

I'd agree with this. If you see yourself doing chains in the future then buy a good quality splitter / riveter. The cheap eBay one has done the job for me twice but I don't reckon it'll last many more.

that will push the pin out of a link allowing the old
chain to be removed but you cant rivet the new one
with it.I have the same tool in my garage.
