Jesus, I was just about to eat as well lol. Up until 2 years ago a friend of mine used to turn up for a rideout with DM's, no gloves & a lightweight jacket!!
Another mate was so concerned that he bought him some Oxtar boots!! Thankfully now he wears all the propper protection. I made the same mistake as we all probably did when I was 18 and dumped my LC250 at 60MPH, I spent two weeks recovering and bandaged from head to foot, be fair to say I would'nt even just pop to the shops without the right gear.

Ouch, I would suggest either Sidi Corsa Air or not Vortice air or Aplinestar Super Tech Vented

I had he Sidi Corsa Air and was excellent in very hot trackdays and touring in Spain where it was 35 degrees plus

Only reason I need another pair is that I worn mine out

Also have to think about the quality of the gear you buy... flimsy cheap leathers etc!! why bother... my pet hate are those nasty replica (usually repsol) jackets you see blokes wear that look like they have bought them from the market. might as well have a hoody on....

Said before but my pal had sidi vertigo (i think thats what thy are called) with only the zips... he hit a car and they both burst off his feet!! his A star leathers Zips also came apart on impact.

food for thought hey, could argue imagine what the damage would have been if in jeans / trainers or that just because it's a known name, cheaper spec'd stuff but fashionable logo's might not be worth a wank??

Dont know if you guy's see this south of the border but what annoys me no end is the prats that jump on their bike with shorts, vest n trainers, usually on sunday afternoon when the barbie is lit and they discover they aint got enough charcoal so " i will just pop to asda " I wouldn't like to be a paramedic having to scrape them off the roadway

    Whats wrong with that?

I only as as the law only requires a lid to be worn. I agree that it's bloody stupid and I would not wear flip flops and a tee on any bike. In the end it's there skin

I'm a great believer in people having the freedom to wear what they want. I don't criticise anyone's choices as we are already regulated beyond belief and wouldn't want to add to the restrictions.

However I wouldn't go out to play on my bike without decent leathers (Dainese) helmet (Arai) and boots (Sidi). But that's just me!

Here you go Jimbo. Worth 149 euros of anyone's money in a Corfu town flea market.

The same day we saw this we watched a bloke sliding his Blade in and out of traffic, Greek traffic mind, wearing vest, shorts, flip flops and Oakleys. It made my willy shrink back in my belly.

    Road rash is ugly.

    but not always...

I don't wear any protection at all, it's hot and restricts my movements, so what if I fall of at low speed and grind my bones down a little, break my head open and break my ankles, it's my choice is it not?

    Did I just say that:(

fast enough to do this than an the other I wear shorts t-shirt and
minimal style shoes on the bicycle and I have seen near 30mph off-road

I hope nobody falls off at all but I’m sure its not a case of slow everywhere. For every metre you slide on the road unprotected, you’ll loose 1mm of skin, bone, muscle etc. (that’s the royal you btw) which doesn’t sound a lot but soon adds up and in some cases could’ve been avoided with the right clothing. And don’t forget the emergency services in this, who have to come and pick up the pieces.

I personally think that that meter slide is worst case predictions.
my bother in law came off at 80 and slid up the road in jeans and a bomber jacket and only had
a cut on his wrist.I had a 40mph off in jeans and paddock jacket, no marks.60mph highside on a
rgv with no leathers and walked away with no cuts, maybe im just lucky ??
then you can look at the other side, two friends of mine hit a car on the antrim coast
road on a slow corner, both kitted up and both died at the scene.Im a firm
believer in when its you time to go thats it.I know a lot wont agree with me and
my views on what protection I wear but its my choice at the end of the day
and one of the last few privileges that you have on a bike.
Im also up in ambulance control so I have seen the mess some bikers are left in
also seen the mess a lot of drivers get themselves into in when they wrap the
car round a lampost but it doesnt put me off riding/driving.

It may well be, but the % of the worst case senario happening increases far beyond someone who wears tools for the job. As you said, the choice is yours but its a diet I aint trying.

Personally I don't find my kit restrictive, except maybe the shoulder cups on my jacket making a bit more difficult to clear my six. I went out for a cheeky blast last year without putting my back protector into my jacket and it just didn't feel right. It's restrictive when I get off. It's hard to manoeuvre around a small cafe or shop in pre shaped leathers but I don't tend to use the bike to 'go' somewhere and then wander around, it's usually 'there and back'. It would probably be more comfy still on a more upright bike and I know it's not likely to protect me underneath a Routemaster but if it didn't work would racers wear it? I mean, it does weigh a bit.

Each to his own but I'll keep the armoured Dainese thanks. How else can I get away with dressing like the Masterchief and get away with it.

here and one other thing on the subject of safety,
them flip up roof helmets are a bit dangerous I think.
one on the two killed on the coast was wearing one and
it broke the whole front clean off the helmet.same as
another fella I know killed when a car done a u-turn
and hit him, he was doing less than 30 on a cbr125
and his flip up roof boxer bust apart.I know they have
safety trials and all that but two people with the same
result each time that I know off :s

I personally think it should be law to ware full gear like it is to ware seat belts in cars, I hear alot of people say if they don't ware their gear they just go easy however you never know what's on the road or who in my case!
Most of my bones were broken when I was traveling at 10mph

Don't get me wrong I'm not having ago at the people that do it as its up to the people however if it can be law to use seat belts why not leathers for saftey?
Just think if there was no law for helmets you would prob see people all the time without them too!
