Just a quick one- is it illegal to use anything other than clear? I've just seen these and am toying with the idea of getting a pair: HONDA CBR 1000RR 2008-2011 HEADLIGHT PROTECTOR | eBay I think they'd look lovely on my Black and Burgundy (or is it candy red?). Anyone else use them in any colour? Anyone recommend somewhere else to get them? Or should I just not bother?
The cops aren't over keen dude .I think only the naff yellow may be legal .I have had them in the past but a couple of things to consider (1) if you block your lights out it doe's look cool in a car park ,but old biffers won't see you coming and another get a recommendation on here for quality as some just dont fit right ie 4 corners but only three stick onto the headlight .
If its just protection and not full block for show then just get the ventershield you may be be able to just get the headlights but remember if you get a sheet and do it yourself you must leave a small margin all round the light .
I got them in white on my bike, rode for a whole summer, never got stopped by police, but.. I got pulled out on loads! and at close distance. was going back over some video footage and you couldn't see me at all, no bloody wonder cars were coming out of junctions, couldnt blame em really haha, took em off. Mine were solid white
I have a clear plastic one for my 954, i see it as just practical, if a stone smashed my headlight then its well over £200 for a new one, plus fitting.... for the expense of a bit of clear plastic i feel it well worth while.
two yeras ago a girl passenger was killed on a bike because the rider was using coloured covers, the car driver said in court that he just could not see the bike. It was a head on crash and the rider went to jail.
i had a solid black one on a gixer k4 1000, but drilled a 2" hole in it to make it look like a projector light, it did have i h.i.d bulb which was very bright so people could see me, that said the headlight on the k4 is much bigger than the blade !
Must be more to it, was it at night or something else. I doubt not seeing headlights during the day makes You guilty automatically. ..if it does I better plug mine I again.
I dont understand why they are illegal when you can give a track bike a day time m.o.t and they dont have any lights at all
it's just common sense at the end of the day, and when it comes to the police if they pulled you then you are doing something more dangerous than having covers on your light for them to waste time.
You're exposed to danger enough on a Bike as it is! I don't see why anyone in their right mind would want to compromise safety further for mere vanity? I've had numerous vehicles, including bikes for 28 years and probably covered a Million miles or so by now and have never even had a cracked fog light on a car never mind a headlight go? It's not exactly the most common of occurrences is it to justify jeopardising ones safety?
