Ok. so todays booking have gone up the wall, so I thought lets have a look and solve Martins bike! Get it on the ramp and pull the clutch and see whats going on, images (sorry but my phone hates my workshop lights) Clutch out. Gearbox cover (cassette) I know the problem is here as counter shaft and main shaft are bound up. Gearbox out (30mins) Why would you not want an RR5. Ah, that will be it then! 4th gear is TOAST (Note how thin the gears are!!!) Gearbox is "worn" so now need to cost it up but imo best bet would be find second hand box or parts Now to find the missing bit!!! And to check the timing etc etc etc..
Art. I hope you won't be offended if I don't hit the like button. I'd love to for the pictures alone. I just can't bring myself to because of poor Martin.
Well if the crank cases were blown to bits and the gearbox all over the inside he'd have reason to be upset but the going is good, I could just replace the one gear but without X ray on the others you can never be sure if they are 100% also the dogs on others are worn so best bet is a S/H cassette..
Top job Arthur, dont ya love cassette gear boxes So easy to remove . Martin as for the gearbox get Mcn open th breakers section an start phoning. You can get them pretty cheap, and don't be Afraid to take a price then use that to haggle The next guys prices down, gearboxes arnt the most Sought after part on blades so it's usually the one You get a bargain on.
Oh Arthur do you think too many particles have bounced Around in there for individual gear replacement? Not sure the going rate but I know on gixers it was Around 25-35 per gear (they have the softest selector forks ever)
Found the two teeth So far so good Now a few weeks back (and many other times) there was a HRC box on eBay but they are a little crunchy in 1st and 2nd, Also an X SB box on eBay too some time back for £700.00 was £10,000.00! You should get one around £150-250 mate Anyway Martin, no reason to be down mate so far its all FREE!!!!! Just hope you can put it all back together.... (poor effort at a joke )
Hate to say it but I,ve seen this and have had to replace the gears for the latest type, the latest gears are a bit thicker in the area around the gear teeth. Normally (I,ve done 3 so far ) it's 5th but 4th on yours. The problem with buying second hand is your likely to buy a set with the same possible fault.I,m told the 06/07 gear set will fit which have the stronger gears although its just hear say as I,ve never had an 06/07 apart YET!!. As a rough guide........it,ll be £100 per gear with doubles twice as much. I did a Gixer last year with plastic forks and they were £90 for a single and £160 for a double..
Same, and yes I have priced the gears 90.00 for 4th and the worn double is 110.00RRP, don't know tbh about 4/5 and 6/7 same or diff thickness wise but would push for a later box as know honda changed so much from 5 - 6 (200+ items 60%) and they defo fit!
Had to hit the "Like" button, because of the pictures and the explanation from Arthur. Also in my opinion it looks worn out anyway, you have to see the good side of it !
Gearboxes Hi fellas, Just on Ebay, gearbox for 06/07 blade, this geezer has two of them £250 each. Honda CBR1000RR CBR1000 CBR 1000 RR Fireblade 07 'RR7' Gearbox | eBay Hope you get sorted.
the HRC on ebay is Mike (racespares) on here. bit much asking price aswell if you ask me,baring in mind that they aren't that good (as arthur says) very jerky in 1+2 due to there only being 3 dogs on the gears. at least you know the problem and they do come up on ebay quite a bit,i actually just sold 1 a few weeks back!!! rough guide around 250
Can i just ask martin how many miles has the bike got on it as that looks to have had quite a hard life send yorkshire gooner a pm mate as he might have 1 in his pile of blade parts
I liked Arthur's work and pics!!! And as much as it must hurt Martin, a gearbox problem is not so bad, at least it isn't more serious or expensive!! Top job Arthur, the only gearboxes I pulled apart in my school lessons were through the bottom end. That cassette type is awesome!! Thanks for the pics, very informative!! That eBay link for the rr7 looks good from far!!!
Well just back from Arthur's, I have learnt alot today he's a fantastic bloke, took the time to explain everything little tging to me, also checked my valve clearances and timing etc while we were at it. Hunt for a gearbox begins, I have emailed the one on eBay to check what the small marks are about as it doesn't sound great
