Got it in Oct, 2001 model in silver. Yoshi RS3's inc. Also has a bitubo rear shock. Whilst the weather was shite I did an airbox & clutch mod & fitted a TRE. Forks are at MHRacing at mo. I did about 200miles on her before I pulled the forks & even with a notchy headrace, I never stopped grinning whilst on it. Absolutely love it!!
Good bike that, I look after a mates for him, key points IMO are keep an eye on rotary damper mounting points, TPS sensors fail causing flat spots and erratic idling, also worth checking TPS setting through the dash from time to time too.. they sound GREAT with pipes on!
Cheers mate, the TPS issue tends to affect pre '99 bikes. The shock I have is a complete unit replacing the SOAS, thus the rotary unit is not reqd, which nicely dumps 5kg, bargain! Yep, it does rattle the stairs whilst ticking over on the drive, lol! I can see me hanging onto this one.
Great fun bike, engine is deceptively fast and lazy.. underrated bikes IMO... sounds like yours is geared to go!
My second bike was the TLR which i think was slightly de-tuned or something like that .Its the only bike i have had which to me ''Feels like a bike should'' I cant remember about the handling but it got me around ok I cashed in for a 2002 GSXR 1000 and there was a big difference not only because of the twin but just a different league.
Agreed Art, its a stonking motor that exudes calm until the clocks smack you in the face when you least expect it. The 1st 4 gears have a softer mapping, the TRE(timing retard eliminator) fools the motor into thinking its permanently in 5/6th.... True enough, twill eliminate any retard who thinks they can nail the throttle everywhere, lol! Its reputation was more due to the fact that we didn't know how to ride a twin as grunty as the TL, as it had 25% more than a 916 or firestorm. Being short & light didn't help either. I've taken the damper off & front feels better, orig damper is way too stiff, lighter oil reqd methinks.
I previously had a yellow TLR and to be fair I loved it, yes it was heavy but it had a stonkin engine. The TLS earned the reputation of being a widow maker largely down to the rotary damper, it gets hot being positioned by the exhaust and the small amount of oil it holds, they still turn heads, sound great and look good IMO
hate can be a strong word...... you barstool..... i remeber the good old days stripping a turbo in the kitchen, bike in the kitchen. exhaust on stairs
Hey thats nice I've had three of them all 97's. I've just recently sold the last one.Small clip of the dyno run. Sounds like you know a bit already so enjoy
Cheers Saul, you got me curious as to why you have what looks like a 2 into 1 system on your bike? If true, that makes no sense for power? Heres my revalved forks ready, followed by a pic of them in. Ah, the pre & post air intake mod too, probably double the surface area. Arse dyno says yessss! Up to JHS to confirm soon.
She had a full yoshi system with the two into one, it was a special little beast. It was as strong as I did the airbox mod too.
Nice, tho weird at the same time, never seen a 2-1 on a big twin ever. Couldn't really see the fig you got on the vid?
Ohhh that takes me back, never had the TLS, the widow maker label put me off a bit, Had a black TLR and felt safer with the Ohlins Sterring Damper... loved it till I parked it in a Ford Escort ! Some twat pulled out in his girlfriends car, I had nowhere to go so I made sure I parked it properly !!
