Heavier than 08-11 wheels weighed my 12 against my wet set from a 08 can't remember figures but wasn't much in it weighed with discs no sprocket carrier
Oh really? I assumed that they were like an OE OZ equivalent. Shame. Aprilia can turn out RSV Factory's with cheaper OZ wheels, you would think with the volumes the Japanese 4 turn out then making their own versions wouldn't be hard. Lightweight wheels are a quick way to cut a big chuck from headline weight, rather than a gram here and there involving huge re-designs.
Wheels are the bit you probably DON'T want to make too much lighter... Lighter wheels are going to mean they move more on the bumps (Less energy needed to move something light up & down). Which means you have to beef the suspension a bit to keep it handling the same (i.e. try to force the wheel against the ground to stop it from skipping around). Which is going to add weight, and probably make it a bit of a b*(&ch in the handling department... So possibly not a great place to start reducing too much. You'd rather the tyres took a bit of the suspension for you. The reason you'd reduce the weight of the rest of the bike is because that's the bit that (Hopefully) goes forward rather than up & down. Less weight there means it takes less energy to go faster. H
LOL. I am going to assume you dont understand inertia forces in any way then. You actually want the lightest of wheels possible without compromising strength, with a lighter wheel you get better turn-in, requiring less effort, you reduce the unsprung weight which improves grip and traction and reduces tyre wear, all that plus by reducing any weight you improve both acceleration and braking. Reducing any unsprung weight is worth several times the physical weight elsewhere. Its actually one of the best performance upgrades per £ that you could ever make. People chase top end bhp upgrades without asking themselves how often are they ever at WOT. A wheel upgrade gives you benefits from the moment you wheel out of the garage.
2000 miles....blimey, hope you keep it warm and dry. Nice pair too. Have a RRX from new with 60k on and a 08, still enjoy riding both bikes..
