It's that time of year when I bend over for the insurance companies. I am actually shocked by how much they are loading the policy for having a Power Commander and a full Akra system. It's bumping the quotes from £150ish to £330+ and so I am tempted to remove them and go back to vanilla. Thing is I have never ridden the Blade without them so I have no idea what it would go like afterwards. Obviously the sound wouldn't be as good, but are there any flat spots etc. in the default 2007 ECU software?
I'm with Bennetts and they were not interested in the extras much. exhaust not a power improvement can and if I had a off they would only replace the parts with standard items so i'm happy with that Re flat spots I have always been aware there are normally due to noise/emissions regs I would try to get a better quote, I have 6 years NCB, 6 years riding and no accidents. no points and paying £220 fully comp protected. at 36yo
I had a big prang in 2009, total write off job, so I am suffering until next year. Just shocked by the difference in the quote purely down to the bits.
Have you tried MCE insurance? They allow you I think 5 mods & they throw in RAC cover leather cover & a couple of other things too. I've only just got 3 years NCB & £375 for 12months & at the mo they will give you 3 months extra cover so I'm sorted now till September 2014( it's on a 2010 R1)
Did the rounds and MCE are winning so far with the bits declared. Need to speak to Hastings to see what they come in at with the mods.
I have never told them about extras an never had an Issue. Oh and had a few claims over the years, power commanders Are removed that quick.
Mce. Where do i start. Theyre the reason im parting with my sp2 as their repairers, 4th dimension, made a right hash of fixing it to the point of having 3 near death experiences and getting mot advisories on items theyd 'repaired' Their solicitors are equally useless. Free recovery? Yes, 10 mile radius of the insureds address. Does.not.cover you for crashes. Helmet and leathers cover... Max 700. Good luck with that, when you.try to claim youll find its actually 300 less a 100 excess. Happy shopping lol, that just about covers gloves and a pinlock. Courtesy bike? No, its a.credit hire cbf600 at 78 a day. Third party will not pay this if you use it, so beware. All the extras are shite. Protected ncb? I have 5yrs and theyve reduced it.to 2, even though it was protected and the crash was 3rd party liability. Their quote for.the new blade? 1024. Thats with 6 points, riding for 30 yrs! Bikesure price..... 317
Bikesure are really good, they dont worry about any mods you might have done, which I found really odd at first. When I worked in that industry, if they got wind of anything, even brake lines then they loaded.
Please avoid MCE at all costs, just google them. Cheap is not always the best and you pay for what you get. The are fraudsters basically. A quick summary of my experience... Did online quote. It seemed the best. Called up to confirm. They confirmed everything was correct and went through all details verbally. I paid in full. Received paper work and they had stated I had various security, which I did not. I called to let them know, and they said they could not insure me, but would be charging a £60 cancelation fee plus 2 months. I pointed out there was an online quote I had a copy of which I listd no security on, and recorded phone calls. They said I was lying. I demanded the phone call recordings. Then got MCN involved. Only after 3 months did I get a full refund. AVOID MCE, there is loads of people on here, on pistonheads, and on the SV650 forum that have had the same experience... and thats just the forums I go on... let alone all the others. Try H&R
Bennetts was the best for me by over £100 compared to MCE and after hearing some story's of poor after sales it was a no brianer
Bennetts and Bikesure are about £75 more expensive and pennies are tight this year Hastings Direct wouldn't quote with a Power Commander fitted
I tend to find a bit of 'Political Spin' is most useful in these circumstances. Rather than asking how much extra it is if my Bike has a P O W E R C O M A N D E R fitted, try instead asking how much less it will be as my Bike has had a Fuel Economy Booster/Mapping device installed?
Well I stuck with Bennetts, didn't like the feedback on MCE, and last time I had an off Bennetts paid up pretty quickly. Took a new policy though and didn't renew as they had a renewal fee the cheeky buggers. Did an enhanced rider test yesterday which dropped it a small amount, and dropped the mileage from 3000 to 2999 which took £50 off. Nearly went to ebike but they don't protect less than 5 years NCD, although they do give unlimited mileage. Suspect that next year I will have it back to standard.
yes ive got an eco-commander, clutch-saver and upgraded audible warning system fitted..... *anyway.... when you remove your pc & akro, you can put them on mine and see if it makes a difference to my premium if you like.... i'll pay you the difference *regarding ebike.... i was with them a few years ago after getting a bike nicked and losing all my (unprotected) ncb.... just to take advantage of their accelerated ncb scheme... you get a years ncb for every 8mths. after 2 years their renewal nearly doubled, even though with their scheme i had 3yrs ncb.... so i shopped arounf, only to find that the accelerated ncb only counts if you stay with ebike - any other insurer, 2 years = 2 years. ebike went from being one of the cheapest to being on the 2nd page of quotes! even for my old 750 they wanted nearly £500! its very much a lottery imo, i think they just pluck numbers from a hat.
you sir are a smart cookie, phoned today to renew my insurance, asked about a fuel economy remapping device.....added with no extra charge
Hmmm. Mine has a front tyre wear reduction dial fitted to the right handlebar. You can tune it so the front rubber doesn't diminish at all...
Oh and a leo vince...she said is it a race can......nope Okay that's okay to have too.so can and power commander Now covered if a crash wrecks them.
i am currently embroiled in a feud with hastings direct after they sent bailiffs to my house, stating i owe them for a policy which was paid up in full in 2011-2012. it happened they neglected to claim a dd in november 11, even though there was money in the account.... i paid this over the fone the same week to bring the account up to date but for some reason they have mislaid the payment, even though it is on my bank statements.... so far they have added £10 late pyment fee, 2x £75 admin fee, debt recovery fees amounting to over £300 and are still threatening court action, and ccjs. all this for a £8.72 missing payment (WHICH THEY'VE HAD) on a policy worth a total of £96 for the year! i cant fkin wait to go to court armed with my bank statements and all the threatening letters they have sent. (avoid them at all costs btw)
