Hi guys, posted the other day about my idle ticking over at 2k instead of just over 1k.

I was told to disconnect the earth lead off my battery for 10 mins which I did and it seemed to cure said tick over problem.

This morning the tick over is back up to 2k has any body any more thoughts on a potential issue or resolution.

I just don't want to be having to disconnect my battery every day.

It's causing problems riding the bike slow speed especially coming into a junction when your rolling off the power as the bike just keeps pulling instead of engine breaking.

    Thanks

Mine does the exact same thing for the first few miles then drops
To just above one after its warmed up.

I expect it when it's cold but mine doesn't drop. It stays at 2k even after my 30 min commute into work.
I leave the bike idling for 10 mins before setting off too.

Maybe check your clutch switch, put the bike in gear with the clutch in. If it doesn't start your clutch switch needs looking at.

So your bike started, in gear and clutch in.
Maybe try a full ECU reset. You've already done a simple one but this resets idle parameters. Hope this works for you.

    ECU Reset

Tried the full ECU reset and its still sat at 2k.

Really confused now let alone the fact i have no idea where to look now

Could be a faulty air temp sensor in the air box.
This would cause a fast idle too

Why does your engine break? Tell us more about this, if it was broken then something is seriously wrong..

right had a wee chat with race spanner buddy and he said the
idle is set using an air sensor called " Idle Air Control Valve"
if this faults you will get abnormal idle speeds.
you can get them on ebay for about £35
apart from that he said have you had the airbox apart as
a bad air intake leak would do the same.
    idle tolerance is 1200 +/-100rpm

    Hi Phantom,

I had the airbox open when fitting my pipercross air filter and Arrow GP2.

This was a week 1/2 ago though, and the idle problem has only started in the past couple of days.

then I would check the air intakes are in place and also
check none of the vacuum pipes have popped off.
if they are all fine it can be the IACV .

    Do you have heated grips?

the bike would not run with this being the problem cause it would tell the coolant temp sensor to overfuel there by overfuelling and flooding the vehicle

Well the IACV only controls the idle and not the main Fueling
So it wouldn't flood the bike.unplug it start the bike and see what
    Happen's.

if im not mistaken you said air intake temp. sorry to disappoint u but the air temp sensor works in unison with maf or map which ever is fitted there by working with coolant temp sensor. this is all part of the bike warming up and going from open loop to close loop. ie all the sensors sending there various data to the ecu and then through all this imfo adjusts idle speed fuelling ratios etc. period

im sorry but the maf/map sensor does not affect the idle they
only measure air flow and not temperature,no airflow to measure
    when stationary.
the only thing that affects the idle is the IAT and the IACV
.the bike mechanic I know said a high rev idle is
most likely the IACV, a rough looping idle is the IAT at fault.
