I'm with ya there Ian, got mine on max forward extension and whilst it's fine at that point for just carrying stuff it's still too close to be able to use the Tablet holder as a Sat Nav which is partly why I bought that model.
I'm with you guys on this, but as the saying goes, I have a cunning plan? My boys at work reckon they could simply make a plate to adapt this to suit our needs. By so much, you'd actually have to move the bag back to its minimum reach but it's workable. the reason I haven't had them make me one? I'd like to bring Meggawatt into this for anyone Wanting one made, after all he is the forums can do engineer, and this is a motorcycle related issue. So no offence to anyone at work . Here's what I've thought of, Now before you start snorting your feckin drinks out of you noses lets make two things perfectly clear 1 i ain't no engineer/fabricator 2 my drawing is as good as my engineering/fabrication skills. Hope though you will see where I'm coming from? 1st off we need to make a plate like the one shown 'only better' the bit where it's marked tank will be an exact replica of the Givi tank ring we have already. Added to this either by welding or a continuess piece of metal/stainless want to be another plate that the origional Givi tank ring will attach too, it will need only to rise 25mm either at an angle or a straight lift. That In turn will leave you with something similar of a side view at the bottom of the page, as you can see, my intention would be to fill the gap between the tank and the plate with a fairly resistant foam to help offset any cantilever forces that may be applied. I'll ping Megs a pm and bring him in on this thread, if he isn't already? And see if we can give it some consideration between us all. But IMO a perfectly simple solution To our problem. Looks good GaryB, but not sure I would want something extra attached to the bike - I will only be using the tank bag occasionally. How about a plate that screws into some of the standard 4 holes onto the tank bag, with an extension to which the GIVI locking mechanism attaches (not sure if that makes sense!)
Yep, get what you mean Ian. As for the plate removal, only a five minute job to remove and refit the bolts. If ya can find the originals that is We will keep thinking and looking. Personally not tried mine out as yet, but time will tell I guess.
I tried the mounting plate the other way earlier with the bag back to front. The bag does sit a lot further forward, but the trouble is you have the tall part towards you Shame they didn't make the plastic mounting plate beneath the bag a bit longer with more holes.
Ive used a Givi tanklock bag for a couple of years for trips abroad. They're bloody brilliant, they don't touch the bike at all and you dont really notice the bracket thing when the bag is off the bike...although I do take the bracket off when I get back to the UK. I even miss the bag when it's not there because there's nothing to lean on. You do have to set it up so the bag is as far forward as possible but it's fine once you've done that. Mine doesn't obscure the clocks at all. After using this system I'd never go back to magnetic or clip on bags. It really is fantastic!
Trouble is the further forward you go the more likely you are to start to obscure ya clocks. My Bag is fine on max extension for storage but it's too high for use as a SatNav holder as when you've got ya paws on the bars your eye's are only 10" or so from the top of the bag and I've got Bar Risers on on so God help anyone with standard Clip ons!
Sorry guys, I've only just had this brought to my attention by Garyb. So, you have a Givi tankbag system that is not allowing the tankbag to be as far forward as you would like? Gary's drawing looks good to me and the item could be easily cut manually or ideally waterjet or lasercut. The problems might come in the offset to lift the extra part of the bracket above the paintwork. If Gary's design was waterjet or lasercut, then the metal would need to be bent to the correct offset so that the extra bit of bracket couldn't touch the paintwork and ideally nothing under the bracket could touch the paintwork. So bending wouldn't be enough! Welding would need to be involved to make it impossible for the extension to touch the paintwork or a strip of 2mm stainless to bolt to the furthest forward fixing on the filler cap to the furthest forward fixing point on the extension? I'll read the rest of the thread and do a drawing later. Oh Gary, your drawings are nowhere near as crap as Si's cartoons.
Thank you megawatt for your input. Look forward to the results, having not ridden with mine attached I can't comment fully, but if a relatively easy fix was available should I be hindered? I'd rather sort a fix now rather than later.
I'd stick it on and go for a ride with it before you bugger it up by needlessly altering it. I've done 13000 miles with mine on.....just set as far forwards as it will go and it's absolutely, perfectly fine!
Just been out on a 120 mile ride. Really struggled with it getting in the way and struggled to move about . For me it needs to be 10cm+ further forward (even then you would be able to see clocks etc. clearly). Its a shame as the bag is really good quality and I like the mounting mechanism - I will probably just keep it until I get another bike. Had anyone got a 'Bags Connection' tank bag? Just wondered if they would fit any better.

Makes no odds I'd say! The BC unit sits just as high as the Givi one and thus will be just as useless as an ipad Sat Nav as the givi
Sinewave is right it does sit quite high but if it works for you then it's fine,I have no trouble with it at all,the mapcase clips on and off as required
