ok well ive had my beasty for 3 days and its now on 623 miles and due its first service. problem is i cant get it in anywhere til next weekend. so that crappy run-in oil is coming out in a bit and power1 going in, otherwise i cant use the bike for a week :/ can you chaps envisage any issues with changing the oil myself? warranty wise? isnt my fault there aren't enough dealers in the area lol! im pretty much ok with the spanners and used to work for honda many years ago (bill smith's), do all my own work (and every fker elses lol) so tbh im less likely to drop a bollock than your average techy! i did see somewhere about take pics of the oil change, provide receipts for the oil etc... and on the subject - has anyone actually had any warranty problems that weren't just little farty issues that can be sorted in 5 mins? reason i ask is cos i fkin hate anyone messing about with my bikes.... this is the reason i swore i'd never buy new again, the amount of times ive had bikes back from service and found scratched panels, bolts left loose, poor running... and paying for parts that havent been fitted, like plugs etc. and say i'd bought the bike purely for track days & club racing.... would my warranty still be valid even though i'd be spanking the bike straight out the crate? your replies are respected, but will probably be ignored lol
Talk your dealer first - imagine them saying 'your warranty is void - its in the conditions' They may say 'bring it in before 1,000 miles and all is ok or similar - better safe than sorry
yeh, will do. just been ringing round like mad trying to get summat sorted. i really dont fancy running that oil for another week when ive got the good stuff here, even if it gets changed again in a week.
I saw somewhere if you have receipts and photos of the work, changing oil won't void the warranty. But check with your dealer first Bcoz it may bite you in the ass at a later date
The first service is the important one get it done by Honda. After that block exemption rules state if service carried out by VAT registered garage using genuine parts the manufacturer mst honour the warranty. A lot of manufacturers now offer Goodwill to repairs outside the warranty window with no loyalty to the brand you won't get anything. It's swings and roundabouts really always will be a grey area should anything go wrong!
I get the first service done at the dealer, most are not Too strict about going a little over the first service milage. Aftet that I do the work myself as I would rather do it myself And know its done right. Have still got warranty replacements And have yet to have a dealer ask to see my stamp book Before the work is done. But thats not to say the dealers over There aren't strict.
I was told that that servicing is based on time or mileage. In my case it first service and its first full year service was combined at the same time due to the low mileage. Given my slipped disc last year and the crappy weather it has still only covered 1100 miles and not turned a wheel since last September. It will still be due for its second year service next month at the same time as its warranty expires. I am in two minds if to take to the local dealer or pack it off on a truck down to Arthur to do the service and work a little of his magic on its fuelling and breathing. A quick question for the wise.....am I right in thinking the brake fluid needs changing at its second years’ service, if so, I might as well get the brake lines changed for Hell equipment at the same time.
Honda will void your warranty if you do it yourself. Bloke on another forum did his and when the engine seized at around the 2k mark Honda told him to do one.
what if you get it worked on by an independent dealer(which is allowed) and then you lost the stamp book? I had my duke done by an independent workshop and when I questioned ducati UK they said that it was perfectly fine.
done the oil change - it was black as fook! got the good stuff in now and a new filter. took pics of the oil change and have receipt for the oil n oem filter just in case it's questioned. i know the guys at hunts pretty well so shouldnt be a problem - i'll check tomorrow as there was nobody in to answer my question today. if they want to do another oil n filter change when i take it in thats fine, i just didnt fancy riding it past 600 with the run-in oil in it, seeing as it's designed to wear the engine!
Thanks Phantom. I have just checked the service guide and it says the first change of the brake fluid is at 18months or 12'000 miles then every two years or indicated mileage which every comes first. The bike has only done 1100 miles so I guess it will be ok to have it done at its two years’ service. I also checked what they did when they serviced it last year. They did both the first (600 mile) and first year service at the same time.
Has anyone noticed that when you check the oil one side of the stick shows half and the other side of the stick shows full and if you spin it around it still happens ? Is it magic?
I doubt any OEM is really happy accepting any of this, but EU Law forces them to, so through gritted teeth they smile, and begrudgingly accept!
Yup any vat garage as said....read the warranty book, nothing mentioned About non Honda garages invalidating your warrant. Freedom of choice the mechaics book I have for the 08 says Every year or 12000 miles, whatever comes first....has this been changed Or is it a usa manual I have ?
spoke to the service dept at hunts and they said 1000 mile is fine as long as im treating it like im still running it in! :s (oh. right. :/ ) then i said ive already changed the oil and filter at 600 and he said fine, no problem, wont do any harm, its only the nut n bolt check then. i''ll have to watch my miles though seeing as ive got nearly 3 weeks to do just 280 miles lol :/
