Hi all, just bought a 2005 CBR1000RR 5, with 8K on the clock (when it works!!!!!!) Wouldn't start day after buying, bought new battery (bike been stood..or so I was told...since July last year), sorted for couple of hundred miles. Then clocks stopped displaying anything but the neutral light, (all rest ie revs, speedo not working), checked all connections, seemed to be bad connection to starter solenoid, stripped and cleaned it, silicon greased everything, OK for another few ride outs. Then same problem...no clocks, bike will run till ignition turned off, will not start. Put new starter solenoid on - OK for 300 + miles - then same again!!! not starting till giggle about solenoid wire from the loom (Red Cap) Noticed the fuse (in solenoid) getting hot - not blown, but melting plastic round the fuse - now battery flat.....HELP NEEDED, Any help advice will be muchly, gratefully received.
Sounds like overcharging to me. You may want to check the reg/rectifier as they can go and melt the main fuse. Be grateful you don't have a VFR, they go through them at a rate of knots good luck.

Hi, I had similar problems with my 2005 blade in 2011. Checked and it is a known fault, stator coils failing, in America that was dealt with via a full recall. In UK you have to get it checked out and if stator coils failed check chassis number with Honda UK . Might be worth check you chassis number with Honda UK. I did and the stator coils were replaced under warranty, free of charge. I know two other blade owners who have had same problem. Mick
I would have thought a rec/reg too.one went on a previous honda I had and it melted ahlf the wiring loom :S

Hi Chris, you need to get the output checked from the generator, not from the reg/rect. I know an owner who checked output from reg/rec, saw a problem, bought a reg/rec , only to find it was the stator coils. The problem could be the reg/rec but if you check output from the generator first then you will know where the problem lies. Also, when stator coils go they can take out reg/rec and this is then replaced if stator coils covered by warranty. You may be able to check by removing the generator cover, the stator coils will look burnt if they are a problem. Honda replaced the coils and also the generator housing. It is the housing that causes the problem as it does not have enough ventilation. Mick

Yes as baldeman said dont check the voltage out of the rec/reg first. My problem was one coil was duff so the reg unit was struggling to Keep the voltage up then it started to fail and took half the loom with it.
Ok thanks everyone for help and advice, av phoned honda uk and they may help with parts if I get deffinate problem located so fingers crossed there, also I work at a motorcycle dealership so hoping to get all electrics checked out asap, cheers again

my stator went last year and i got no help from honda even though i knew more about the "warranty" the bloke at the shop!! heres what mine looked like! just recently (6 months later) i got the same symptoms so i called them and they said that the stator whould only be under warranty if it was fitted by a honda garage.... im pretty sure that they just didnt want to help. i would have though by law if it was faulty they should replace if free of charge in that short amount of time. any way i stripped it all down to check everything again and it seemed alright. and the rectifier was at fault this time! im fucked if im gonna pay over £220 for a genuine one if in 6 months time they say its not under warranty because their honda tech didnt plug the cunt in! i had the same clocks stopping working and it wouldnt restart untill i charged up the battery. it would also pop and bang like fuck on overrun. i wasnt melting shit though.
Hi Danidge, mine looked just like that but I didn't get much help from the shop I dealt with so spoke to Honda UK. The problem lies not with the stator coils but the generator housing. The new housing they have fitted has more ventilation, so even if new stator coils are fitted they are at risk in the original housing. Mick
thats interesting as i was under the impression that the new flywheel and stator come as a matched pair to rectify the problem. no mention atall of a different housing! i might have to email them too. in fairness the shop was as helpful as they could be but honda uk said the couldnt help me to the shop so i dont know what responce i will get.
