The later Bikes have the Cat strangling the last few Donkey's that's why.

Run both Bikes with a Yoshi or an Akro with a map and the later Bikes will reign supreme!

I think the cat was introduced in 05 or 06.

True, but the later bikes had to comply with ever more stringent emission tests thus losing even more power through their exhaust systems.

This is why the 09 Bikes onwards starting getting HUGE Ugly exhaust systems like the ZX10, GSXR etc just so they could comply.

The Blade actually has one of the nicest looking standard exhausts on a Bike from the Japs, the European efforts still reign supreme though in the styling stakes.

they were too worried with emissions an that so the new blade isnt just as
powerful but they were more fixed on handling than power which is the right
thing but I was slightly disappointed with mine when the brother blew my bike
away with his stock gixer thou so the PC was a must add on.want to see what
mine will get on the dyno now as my RR5 got 167bhp so I would hope it would
    be near that.
p.s. I dont quote mcn as I think they get half their figures from wikipedia and the dealers,
I remember them claiming the blackbird could do 190 until superbike mag tested it and showed
the clocks said 190 but it was really only going 178 lol

I wouldn't pay to much attention to Performance Bike as in that issue the Blade was only very slightly quicker the 600rr which is utter shite also the 954 Blade is quicker than all litre bikes
I did email them at the time and they spouted off about differences in atmospheric pressures and temperature bla bla bla!
And recently a tyre test was done on 2 Fireblades one on oem S20's and the other on the tyres on test! Then they set the tyre pressures to 36f 36r:confused: they said that's what the tyre manufacturers recommended!
So I emailed them again and asked why not just run 36/42 so it is more in common with most riders and they said that a 42 rear is for pillion use only! I said that's what preload's for! I don't believe or trust the shite they print I got the offer of 3 issues for £1 that's the only reason I got their mag!

    Anyhoo rant over :D

I have clocked 183 and she was still pulling surprisingly strongly :D
This took place in the Isle of Man of course! on the mountain section :)
