Quick hello as new to the forum. Got my 'blade last weekend, '07 in black and red. Could have quite easily lost it again on the A53 today... how many speed cameras?? Bert
Yep, definitely one to avoid. Well, the Leek to Stoke bit anyway. The Stoke to Ashbourne run woke me up!
Hi Bert, welcome to the forum only just joined myself. Seem a good crowd, (apart from them southerners) . Live extreme west Sheffield an ride with another blade, (not on forum), if you are out Derwent way give us a shout. All rides usually end at Fairholmes as just 10 mins from home. Mick
Welcome to the forum Bert. I've fallen foul of the A53 myself, but fortunately it was a real copper in a car and not a camera, just got some friendly advice re overtaking. The reason for the cameras though; The A53 has been reported as a high risk road for several years. According to a report done by the Road Safety Foundation for the European Road Assessment Programme (EuroRAP), the A53 is one of the most dangerous roads in the UK.[1] In June 2008, a 12-mile (19 km) stretch of the A53 between Leek and Buxton was named as the most dangerous road in the West Midlands.[2][3] This single carriageway stretch had 14 fatal and serious injury collisions between 2003 and 2005, and was rated as Red—the second highest risk band—in the EuroRAP report publish by the Road Safety Foundation.
Thanks for the warm welcome everybody. Mick, that sounds good. I'm out at least one day most weekends and usually around the Peak District. Will drop you a line next weekend maybe. Pete, nice bit of science fact. Thanks for the info. It seemed a bit weird, not to mention frustrating, passing through one camera and being able to see the next... for about 20 miles! I won't be adding it to my '50 bits of road to take to heaven' list.
Thanks chaps. I've just figured out you have to move onto the next page if you want to keep reading the thread. I might work out what that pully squeezy thing next to the twisty right handy thing does next. Ride would be good Steve, I'm only round the corner in Cheadle. About next Sunday if the weather's good. Will drop you a line nearer the time to see if you're free. Bert
