I'm trying to replace the headlight relay in my '12 blade. Does anyone know the part number? I have a new relay, but when I tested it, as show in the 08 manual, it isn't working. The guy in the dealer wasn't 100% sure it was the right one

Are you sure it is the relay? Main beam or dipped relay

Looking at the wiring diagram, I think both are fed through the relay, it just controls which gets the power. I can by pass it and the lights work.

OK my bad... according to the 12 wiring diagram (as best I can understand) there are two 12v feeds, which go to the switching coil and the switched contacts. The other end of the switching coil goes into the clocks, so this controls the relay, and the switched output goes to dipped light, and via the main beam switch to the mainbeam light.

Not meant to sound patronising, so sorry if it does.

Without seeing the wiring diagrams it hard to help, would imagine the light relay for the 08 would be the same as the 12 but they are different bikes so could well not be the case. Is that registered or manufactured in 12?

If it's a 12 bike, either registered or manufactured is not covered under warranty?

Either way, try Lings Honda website as sure they have full parts listings, ok they have changed the part numbers to their own but should be able to order the correct one for your bike from them.

Thanks Dave. I've stuck a link to the wiring diagram in a separate thread in case it is useful to someone. The relay was missing, so not covered under warranty. Thanks for the link - sadly for some reason the bike selector only goes up to 2010 :-( It is a 12 bike - big piston forks, digital dash, non-working headlight lol.

The headlight relay is up in the front cowl - opposite side to the flasher relay

Would a missing relay not show up during the pre delivery inspection(pdi) by the place you bought it from? Ok a faulty unit could have been tested and working at time of the pdi and went faulty after but a missing unit wouldn't allow the lights to function an therefore should not have left the dealership till rectified.

Or am I missing something? is the missing relay only missing from the diagram you found?

Either way hope you get it sorted, pretty sure the light relay for 08+ is in the nose cone too next to indicator relay.

It was second hand, and a private sale. It had been stripped for a track day, then converted back for road use. Otherwise immaculate. Will have another look at it tonight.

OK, so I have now narrowed it right down to the dash not switching the relay. If I ground out the relevant pin on the harness that plugs into the dash, hey presto lights. Is there a setting to turn the running lights off?

Can you tell me how you solved this problem mate? I have the same problems having turned a track bike back into a road bike...
