Bloody typical that it lashed down for the track day after all the recent good weather. I originally had it booked for the the 16th July but the TDO had to cancel for a F1 test day. Turned up in the morning and the track was very damp after overnight rain. Signed in and briefing and out for the 3 sighting laps, for the full Motogp circuit. Track was mostly wet with a few big puddles of water. After the warm up laps we were set off to do our own thing and track was quite slippy in a couple of places. Half way round the first lap it started to hammer down so I came in after the one lap. Second session out it was raining again so the track was now fully wet. A few of the track bike lads were going well with wets on but I went at my own pace and just tried to keep things smooth. Did a few laps with the lightening flashing away all over the place. After about 4 or 5 laps it really started to rain hard so I came in again and the track was closed for about 90mins as there was too much standing water making it dangerous. I have copied a youtube link from a cheap video camera I had on the front of the bike. Check out the lightening at 21.50:10. SUNP0002 - YouTube It eventually stopped raining and the track was swept by marshals to get rid of the standing water and dried up really quickly. Managed to do 3 more sessions. The first one was half wet and half dry and the last 2 fully dry. Managed to get some decent fast laps in and and get some wear on both knee sliders. Was a bit disappointed that it was raining to start with but having said that, to go out when its that wet and still go round overtaking is a good confidence booster and help keep concentration on being smooth and relaxing on the bike.
Well done for riding in that weather. What tyres did you have on? Great shots of the lightening, I would of been hiding in the garage lol
LOL! If I ever go to silverstone I'm takin an outboard for the back of the 750... Hope you still enjoyed it though mate, I'm yet to do a wet trackday but I've heard it teaches you a lot.
