Not sure about The Bang but all 1000 cc bikes have a fair old clunk when 1st is engaged .

How's your chain tension? I believe this can affect it

most bikes will crunch when you select 1st when cold, usually gets better when the bikes warm as it's not revving as high and clutch plates are free'd up a bit more

shouldn't be anything to worry about as long

That's how we know we ride a Honda!!! Best you can do is ensure chain tension is correct as said above...

Hold the clutch lever in for a few seconds before selecting gear when first started an engine oil is cold . Selects gear much smoother . All bikes clunk a little when selecting first , correct chain adjustment is key .

Yep, always makes me flinch when the engine's cold. My 550f's exactly the same. Maybe it is a Honda thing.

Happens when engine is at 95+C in today's heat.

Honda clunk when cold is the norm. Try blipping the throttle like you do when changing down, it speeds up both input and output shafts to ease the engagement.

Sitting daily at the traffic light GP that is London commuting, as everyone prepares to launch as the opposite lights start to change to red, bikes are all nicked into 1st quietly, then bang goes the Blade, dont matter hot or cold, everyone knows when a Blade is there.

Mine either. Just live with it. It's not actually much louder than anyone elses... It just feels that way because you're closer to it
