Hi all, My missus has paid for me to go to the RH race school at Donnington next week. I'm riding the blade up there in the morning from London and am looking for some decent routes as I think the M1 might send me to sleep Any suggestions for routes?
i'm contemplating flying down to luton and driving up from their realistically how long wold it take to drive from Luton to donnington? google maps says about 1hr 1/2?
Hi Wacko, I'm not keen on Motorways either and whenever I've been up that way I prefer to use the A5. Loads of it is an old Roman road (Watling street) so fairly direct and runs reasonably parallel to the M1 too. Used it regularly to get up to Oulton Park and it's a good, relaxing ride which you can make good pace and progress on. Just North of good old Hinckley, turn right onto the A444 towards Appleby Magna and then right again onto the A42 to Ashby-de-la-Zouch. At jct 14 of the A42 take a left onto the A453 towards Isley Walton and the circuit is just off to the left up Walton Hill. Hope that helps and enjoy your day, cheers!

Bob, 1hr 1/2 sounds about right as it's 90 miles up the M1, but I'm not sure whether or not there are planned roadworks at the moment that might slow things down though. Taking the A5 route seems to add on about 30 - 45 minutes to this, so may be an option if the M1 is busy.
