Right here goes, bought a set of BPF's from a member of this site for fitment to an RR-6. They bolt up no problem through the standard rr6 yokes. The issue with the spacing of the front wheel and just wondering if anyone has fitted 08 to 11 forks into a RR-6 or 7 and how they went about it as they would have had the same issues. I measured the forks and all seemed great and near identical so went ahead and fitted them. Issues left are that the disks don't sit central in the calipers, the rr6 wheel when offered up with rr6 spacers fitted still leaves approx 10mm total space from spacers to forks (about 5mm each side - measurement A) and the spindle only goes about halfway through the far fork before the nut goes on - measurement B. Don't want to simply try and tighten the nut up given the additional space as likely to damage forks, disks or both! The space is equal (measurements A) with best fit on calipers. I can make spacers up to rectify this additional space so not really a problem. The issue I think I’ll have is aligning the discs correctly in the calipers and spindle length. Castrol Craig seems to be technically minded and knows a bit about buggering about with bits from different years regarding wheels and stuff by looking other threads so hopefully he can help but open to suggestions from all pretty please! So a couple of question please, firstly, is the 08-12 spindle longer than the rr6/7? if it is i could use one of these and reduce measurement B and the other is how best to align discs correctly. Simples!! Tried to attach a pic as paints a thou words and all that but after half an hour trying to insert/attach a 36kb pic i've given up!! PM me and i'll send if you think you can help or someone advise me how to get a pic to upload! Tnx Bike spec is:- • Full Arrow exhaust • PC3 • Crash bungs • Tail tidy • Galfer discs • Goodridge hoses. • K&N filters. • Single seat cowl. • Powerbronze hugger. • Double bubble screen. • Diamond Rearsets • Dymag Carbon/Magnesium Rims • Ohlins Rear shock • Brembo RCS Front Master Cylinder • RR-10 Honda MonoBloc Calipers • Titanium Disc bolts • Samco Hoses • Gilles Adjusters with lifters • Carbon Chain guards
Cant help you mate but looks like you have some lovely goodies, upload the pic to photobucket and copy the link.....very easy
I think you need to add 5mm spacers for the discs Its eithe add spacers or machine 5mm off the wheel, I cant remember which way round it is but thats easy to see.
Did put a reply up to this thread but it's been with the moderators since early this morning so not sure why it hasn't appeared? Any ideas? Had links to PhotoBucket and some text!
No idea but will look into it looking into it Graham I've not had anything or moved so have asked others just to find out what happened
Hi mate. It was an auto spam filter, as your post has lots of links in it! I will look into the error with uploading pics though. Cheers, Rob.
Tried all variants of links from Photo-bucket to sort the pics and these are the only ones I could get to work. I tried inserting the pics and attaching them as well but I couldn't get this to work so hopefully the links will work for those that are interested. 1 - Before the forks were fitted - http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh569/urbantiger-blade/15082011179-Copy.jpg 2 - With forks fitted - http://i1252.photobucket.com/albums/hh569/urbantiger-blade/rr6.jpg Having bought the 2012 front spindle I found it to be exactly the same length as the 2006 one I already had - although Honda Tech Support advised me that it was up to 10mm longer which it wasn't so I got a couple of spacers and a longer wheel spindle made up in the end to fit the forks. I also ended up with spacers in behind the brake discs (between the rim and the discs), the spacers were 2mm thick, and one on each side. All went together easily then. The bike feels smoother to ride and where I notice it most is under braking. I'm waiting on a Brembo underslung rear brake kit arriving and that's the next thing to be fitted this winter.
Umm this has got me thinking !!! im not to sure about spacers behind the discs, and how would you go about getting a spindle made
The early wheel is 10mm (+5 a side) wider, it's quite normal to use spacers to offset the disc, OZ supply spacers with the wheels I have so they fit all years. I think the later OZs are year specific, cost saving. I had to machine my spacers plus order a spare set as I wanted my alinement spot on to match my GP4 calipers, OEM tolerances are often out by +\- 2mm
I think I read somewhere the difference was 3mm each side, I'm prob wrong tho as you know a little more than me lol
Just checked, last front I had done 4mm was taken off each side, The OZ spacers I have are 5mm. :S Pays to measure them up!
Hi Tezza (re PM), fork wise they fit the yoke, differences from 04-07 fork - 2008+ I am not sure, length? is the key? I know a guy who fitted FGRT813's (online) to an 07, he did the mod to the wheel and spindle also minor mod to front mudguard mount. Here is the bike with them fitted. All this was some time back and its hard to recall the specifics of the task, however as you can see, its possible.
Thanks for the reply, It looks like I need to get some spacers 5mm less than my standard ones and that will sort the centerline (can it be that easy) ?, So the spindle ! I need to get a longer one made, Do you know anyone who has had experience in making extended spindles, its not something 'ive ever looked in to ? Thanks again for the help.
It was a long time back but I THINK it's goes something like this, the axel is an issue, I THINK the new fork is longer, the caliper offset as you know is diferent, and front mud gaurd mountings, they fit the top yoke etc I know people did this mod soon after the 08 bike came out, searching google I find my own posts here and there but can not find the data Search 1000rr.net or fire an email to DanKyle he may recall the excact info. I will see if I can dig it up.
Your a star ! Just mailed DanKyle, I bought my shock off him so he might be helpful, fingers crossed.
