Guys, i have been trawling the internet, reading reviews and what i can about action cams for the bike. I don't want to spend more than £150-£200 (well the wife doesn't as it's my belated birthday present) and i want a new one. Not only will it be used for bike but i'd also like to use it in the landrover for offroad etc. I have seen the GoPro which is the popular camera but which model would be best within my price range. Then there is the drift HD which i quite like the look of but is this a helmet cam only? I have also seen a cam made by AEE which is identical to the GoPro AEE Cameras | Shoot your good moments in HD! in particular this one which works out at £126 Action Cam SD20 Sports Pro Camera 1080p with LCD Screen, Wireless Remote and Laser **OFFER** - Sports-Action Camera just don't know anyone who has one. Some advice would be appreciated, thanks.
Open ended question that will have replies running into 10s of pages if history on this question is anything to go by. Just sold my GoPro silver £200 and bought a Drift Ghost with 4 free extras of my choice at a BSB weekend off the Drift stand for £280. more streamlined, better features but worse on the fixing, the GoPro brackets give you more adjustment but at a price of hanging off ur lid by a mile. You get what you pay for and I wouldent be without a remote control on one again, strap it on ur brake reservoir.
Although i have only used the GoPro i can highly recommend it, i did start a thread on it a little while ago which you can find here http://1000rr.co.uk/mods-upgrades-accessories-products/13346.htm Here a few screen captures i have taken from some footage Andy's Album: GoPro 3 Black Edition The video quality is spot on and those images were captured @ 1080p / 60fps You can pick the Hero 3 silver edition up on ebay for less than £200 at the moment and may become even cheaper as they have just launched the Hero 3 + models
That look like a hard to beat deal....... my go pro (which I would recommend) was a lot more plus I had to buy lcd screen extra...... I ve never heard of these boys but web site and demos look top notch...... you ll be hard to beat anything like that on cost......lots of cheap camera available but quality usually is quiet poor from what I ve seen.....
I bought the Drift Ghost HD as it is comparable in spec to the GoPro but looks far better on ya Bike or Lid. Has a Colour onboard screen for instant play back and real time alignment which is invaluable. It comes with brackets for mounting in any position on ya Bike or on ya Lid. Oh, and Baron Von Grumble uses one, nuff said! Drift HD Ghost Motorbike Camera | Head Cam for Motorcycle Helmet My first attempt with it!
The video footage for the AEE camera on their web site doesn't look that sharp. Whilst in contrast the footage I've seen previously from the Go Pro range looks unbeatable for quality. Professional TV companies seem to use the Go Pro camera regularly when filming action sports from the POV. I can remember the Gadget Show sending a Go Pro to the edge of space using a helium balloon. The camera survived the trip up and down and recorded some fantastic video. I'd use your money to buy the best you can afford - second hand if necessary. There was a bargain Go Pro camera on the forum last night but now sold - still loads on Ebay though.
Drift HD myself, can't fault it as it's dead easy to use and pretty small. Got loads of quality footage in the Alps this year and I haven't had any problems with it so far. You've gotta keep an eye on your battery level as it can corrupt the recording you're doing if it goes flat halfway through or so I've heard. I charge it from my bike with one of those cigarette lighter adapters when I'm on my travels (£2), works a treat ! For editing I use Sony Vegas Pro 12, personally I find that the easiest to use but you can download Windows Movie Maker for free, it ain't great but it's easy and free...
Just bought a Go Pro 3 Black from Play.com for £265 and it is epic! The footage in 1080 @ 60fps is genuine broadcast quality. I have tried uploading clips from my trackday at Oulton Park on Wednesday, but for some reason it won't let me upload to You Tube, so I am afraid to say that you will have to take my word for it. Drifts are good too, but I do like the range of mounts for Go Pros.
You'll probably find that Go Pro mounts can be used with Drift cams and loads of others... I buy the cheap but strong universal suction mounts etc off Ebay, haven't lost the camera yet !
And it takes forever......... Also be real careful what you upload as 'Big Brother' is watching, I find the "blur" and "motion track" tools come in very useful !
I can't work it out, as I have one video at just under 13 minutes, but it says it isn't the right format. No idea what is going on.
Well in the end i have gone for the Drift HD 1080p with waterproof case and external mic for £135 off Action cameras website. I'll get out when it arrives and get some footage up.
That's a good deal - I'm looking at a GoPro Hero 3+ from the US with no duty / customs etc as its a gift, I've used the very first GoPro loads, captured epic footage with my HD one so think an upgrade needed. I use vimeo.com as my upload / hosting site - and pay for Plus membership for higher upload capacity and a few other things. Editing is the killer - very few people watch long un-edited videos, attention span low I find
I'm a Sony Vegas user, but Windows movie maker is poss. best to start with, cut your teeth on that, then move up to more complex - if you go direct to vegas or other high end stuff the complexity will blow your mind / leave you feeling frustrated I think.
I have the go pro hero 3 black motor sport edition always used suction cup never lost it touch wood. Takes ages to convert using the gopro standard software once converted easy to put on iPad and YouTube and you can edit to hide bike from video and so on. I do tho wish I just bought the silver as I have never used the remote and anything over 720p my 8gb of ram laptop can handle it and it is a nightmare lol but brilliant footage.
sony vegas for my editing and render in wmv at 80% quality as anymore than that and youtube compresses it anyway.if its just for youtube I usually just record in 720 and not many watch it full screen mode.fire up the first four vids with no music and you can become a youtube partner so its unlimited size uploads and other features like custom vid thumbnail.
Woohoo! Ive finally ordered a Drift HD Ghost for myself. Been after one for ages but funds wouldn't allow until Games Workshop Hero Quest Game with Kellars keep and Wizards of Morcar | eBay I sold my old board game for a wedge and put the rest on the never never. Love watching the Ol Grumble and reckon my trips to work in the slush, mud and frost could be amusing or Kak! either way Im well happy, any tips for fitting, usage or editing much appreciated. Come on postie where are you?
