As per title, this years moto gp trip is to Mugello. So any recomondations for nice roads any stop offs gratefully accepted. Two bikes going over two / three days for ride down with two days back.
Not going to be much help, but knew a guy who went via Lake Geneva for overnight stop, then a day's ride to the circuit. Sorry not much help but assume he may have gone a quick route from Calais.
think you will be stuck on the motorway with that amount of time your giving yourself. i done pretty much this https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?sadd...,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15,17,18,19,20,22&t=m&z=5 couple years back from bologna for a ducati factory visit (it was fcuking closed when we got there ha ha). dolomites, Austria inc grossglockner, black forest b500, b48, cochem the ring just to name a few highlights.... big four days though fella. if your going though, id seriously try and bag a couple extra days either side, long way to go and missing out a great deal on your way through europe imo. but everyone is different obviously. just my 2p worth. why i never ride to motogp events, refuse to go motorway and therefore always turns into a 2 week trip!! lol
You need 2 weeks for a proper Mugello trip - you have to be on top form to party till 3 / 4 am Friday night / Saturday morning - then the late afternoon drinking after qualifying, steadyish Sat night to have a good day watching the race Sunday. Seriously to enjoy it as Jimbo says add some days, or just fly But whatever you do stay at the circuit for the nightlife - its unique at a MotoGP
Cheers gents, I am now leaving early Tuesday to Luxemberg, then to Cloisters then to Florence. ride home is going to be killer. I think I need to get another day off.
I know this is a 'Nerd Alert' post - but is there a chance you could get a Monday evening boat after work ? Its long days then and stay in Calais Monday night - trust me it buys so much extra time the next day. You will piss pass Luxemburg on the Tuesday if you do - maybe staying at the top of the black forest. Then Wednesday Black forest to Klosters, Thursday in the Alps (its awesome) then down to Mugello Friday maybe - Florence is lovely but in bike kit its roasting. Have you accom sorted for Mugello?
We went Calais, Interlaken, Ancona. for a ferry to Greece. last year. It's two good days, be careful in Switzerland what roads you take, you can get very stuck in queues at some tunnels. i.e. Gottard.
Can't leave on Monday away for Bank holiday with family, plan is to leave Luxemburg early to enjoy the ride to Kloisters., then a nice full day from their to Florence, we have booked a place but don't have the details at hand
Me and some friends are going too, but hard enough to get the Wednesday and Thursday off as others off at the same time at work !! I'd love more time to take the best route, but just can't happen this time . Hopefully be ok though ??
Repsols are made to cover ground quickly, do you have a gel seat or the cheap option like me, cycle shorts,
Yes, they are quicker, but travelling with a RSV and Two ZX7r's. Non of us have done any long trips so this will be a test on us all !!
I'd honestly rather fly than break my nuts on motorways and duel carriageways for two days either side of a mega session like that.... You'll be dreading the ride home - I was from assen and its only a day. Mind you, we was 2 up on an r6 and broke all hammertime pb's in 72 hrs lol Edit - sorry! You guys will still have a blast, just been there and done that lol. Wasn't trying to piss on ya fire lol
I went to Assen last year, those roads are really straight and uninteresting, plus it was cold on journey there and home. Racing wasn't bad though with the Lorenzo highside and return to race with shoulder pinned. Ride home will be ok on the first day through the Alps, second day will be a bit boring. I wouldn't mind flying but the GP excursion is the only time I get away on the bike for more than a day. The rest of the year weekends away are spent taking my son camping in the VW to superbikes etc.
Thought about the overnight train? Could gain some serious play time on the roads that ate worth it?? Guide to Motorail trains in Europe | Taking your car by train Used it from alessandria last year, was the nuts
