    Hi Folks

My quest for a new lid continues.

I've tried Shoei's before and they have never fitted me as well as my trusty Arai's.

But I tried a Shoei GT Air yesterday and it fitted like a glove! Lovely helmet, very impressed, and I know a few guys on here have them.

However, I'm not a fan of the drop down sun visor, and never been keen on the tinted pin lock insert visors.

Question is...are replacement dark tinted visor's available for the GT Air?? (not had a proper search on web) If so I will purchase said lovely lid.

    Many thanks

    Mike

Why would you need a dark visor when it has a flip down visor built in?

Have you tried on the XR1100? Just as comfy, but doesn't have the drop down visor that you don't like.
Also there is a higher possibility that you can get a dark visor to suit.

As stated Colin, not to keen on the drop down visor, division of visibility between the drop down and the normal visor in the lower peripheral area.

I could live with it as the helmet is now top of the list. But would prefer a full dark tint visor if it was available, which it dosen't appear to be.

I have seen on several reviews that the drop down sun visor is some what better than other equivalent types though.

Be interesting to hear what current owners feel about the drop visor in the GT Air? Any good? No good? Indifferent?

I'm in the market for 1 also Mike, and the GT air is on top of my list.
I also tried it on a couple of weeks ago and really liked it.
Just need to save my beer tokens :)

Yeah you and me both Colin.

I've tried on loads of new lids, nothing works for me (execpt Arai's, and I'd like something different and quieter) until I tried the GT Air.

Maybe the flip down sun visor dosen't float my boat just because it's something different and untried. Maybe it'll be better than envisaged. Think I'm gonna take the plunge and see what's what. Be interesting to hear the review of the peeps on here.

I tried on the GT Air the other week and the optics on the integral sun visor are top quality - as good as Schuberth's. At the other end of the scale AGV's sun visor is absolutely awful and severly impacts on your visibility whereas the GT Air's wouldn't, imo.

But, if you're not keen on the integral sun visor then as Colin says try on the XR-1100 or the X-Spirit 2 which are of similar spec. The XR-1100 is brilliant and looks great with a dark visor. They may even be discounted with the arrival of the GT-Air too?

One of the main USP's of the GT Air is the dark drop down Sun Visor!

This is why you're finding it difficult, if not impossible, to find a Full Dark Visor as there is simply no need for one and hence no one makes them, not to mention that a full Darkie is illegal to boot!

You're also paying a premium for this feature, so if you don't like it you'd do far better choosing a diff model.

If ya wanna Dark Visor and Shoei looks and fit then get the X-Spirit 2 like I did, simpleessssssssssssssssss!

Yeah I know what you're saying sinewave about the USP and the visor. Just really like the lid, just not the sun visor so much.

Hey ho. Think I'll still give a try though, I may end up being a convert.

Full dark tint visor's are so ninja though!

I can't see it being long before tinted visors start turning up, they seem to for every other make and model.

Sorry to take this thread slightly off topic, but how does the GT AIR come up size wise?
I really like the look, but I don't know of any local dealers that stock them so I can try one for size etc!

My current lid is an Arai Viper GT in medium. Perfect fit.

Tried the GT Air, also in medium, again perfect fit.

The medium for both helmets is 57-58 cm I believe, so like for like.

Sorry to butt in, you cannot get dark visor for the GT-Air, by deliberate design, Shoei fitted a drop down visor and did not want anyone putting on a tinted visor and so designed the original visor as a different shape so as not to interchange......... Hope that help's

I've got a GT-Air. And despite the weather, I have actually ridden it in the morning on the M4 towards London (And the Sun). Interested to know why you'd ever need the tint to come down lower than the drop-down visor... On mine the drop down is perfect. Anything below it is the speedo...

I bought the same size GT-Air as I had Raid-II. Initially I considered the GT-Air too small. And was about to send it back (Bought it online because I couldn't find one in a shop). But tried it on a couple more times and decided it was fine. Which it is.

FWIW I couldn't find an Arai (Or Shark or several others) that felt comfy... Shoei really do seem to model their helmets on my head... XL BTW...

No... They designed the visor to incorporate all the extra bits they did over the old models... i.e. better field of view. Pinlock comes RIGHT up to the top, so you're not looking through the edge of it to see the road. It's wider and taller than the old models.. Fits the helmet better so less wind noise. (Flush with the helmet whereas on the older models you had a small lip that made noise at speed. That's gone now).

It really is a great improvement on the older models.

Initially they appear to be on the small side, but that is the shell shape and how it helps with the quietness, but size wise an M is an M, most people who try them on say they are too small to start with, but they sell very well and their are some great designs.......
