Having an absolute nightmare finding insurance. Hastings Direct won't insure me, Bikesure, EBike, MCE and Carole Nash all over £500 with Carole Nash at £712.62.
Right Choice in Essex are coming out best at £330.
Think I should have kept my mouth shut about the mods.

You could do what I did on the advice of someone on here. It worked too.

Go through one of the price comparison websites and declare no mods. Accept the quote and then phone after you've paid and play the daft lad saying that you couldn't remember seeing a place on the site where you could put your mods on. Speak to them about adding them on and they may just keep your price the same. They did in my case.

this is a very good and valid point because other than bennets, no other company give a description of what "mods" need not to be declared.
I like your plan to discuss it direct with the agent and if you save some pounds, hey who can argue with this :)

one thing i noticed about the "extras" thrown in by some companies (e.g MCE) the covers can be extremely basic!
In my case i noticed the RAC cover would just transport the stranded bike to within 10 miles of the actual location. now if the nearest garage is say 15 miles, then you pay for the extra distance (now whether rac would charge you, i don't know but nowadays when it comes to money, all companies have such mercenary attitude)
i resolved the issue by taking out a personal breakdown policy cover:D
