took my blade for an MOT last week, they blew out with out event testing it, tbh I was hoping they'll be friendly enough to give an advisory and pass it, but no the case.

failed on the following
No Baffle, too laod (I guess that was an obvious one)
Number plate too small (6x9)
intergrade indicators, interfering with brake lights

So if anyone else is about to have an MOT done and have any of the above, best advise is to change it so that you don't

 

What make of exhaust did you have on?
If its a race can with baffle in will it pass? cheers

 

I have a street legal akrapovic, with no baffle and they still failed it. Seems like ever since the talk about this legislation to stop modifications came about, that they're getting strict on things like mot's

 

Those failures are to be expected, the rules for those items haven't changed for years.

The indicators can't affect the operation of another light (ie. tail/brake)
Number plate must be one size and if it's a road legal exhaust the baffle must be installed
To be honest the tester could of turned a blind eye to them items. He might of been having a bad day lol

 

I think it very much depends on the testing station. Mine was MOTd recently with a Yoshi can with no baffle in, an illegal numberplate and a couple of other things that they could've quibbled about and it went straight through. No mention of any of it.

 

How did they test for noise ? With a decibel meter , and what doe the measure need to before being classified as being to noisy , I have a yoshi on mine it passed at brands on a noise test

 

I always put my baffle in andmy proper size number plate on for my MOT, only take a few mins and all sorted

 

there isn't any testing equipment for noise during an MOT, its down to the tester to decide (thats why i never fail loud pipes)

 

if i was a bike tester i wouldnt fail a bike for being loud unless it is ridiculously loud.
with a loud pipe people are more likely to hear you coming and not pull out on you right?
that would be my excuse anyway

 

i make sure the bikes are safe before i give them a pass, whats the harm in having a loud pipe?

 

not really as all the noise is behind you lol

 

I always wonder how Hardly Movingstons pass the noise test as they arw normally a lot louder than road bikes.

 

If you can avoid watching the tester then do so. Sometimes the ministry send a secret shopper and if the tester thinks you are from the ministry cos you are watching him he will be very strict.

 

Small plate,loud pipe no problem......know your tester!

 

so are you telling me you never hear a bike coming down the road while you are waiting to cross?
just because it comes out of the back dosent mean it cant travel forward too...

 

when people are driving cars listening to music and fiddling with their damn mobiles, NO, its doesn't matter how loud your exhaust is
and I'm sorry to say that's seem to be most drivers

Pedestrians might hear you, if they haven't got their earphones in

You don't need a loud exhaust to be safe, just bloody good eye sight, to be aware and show anticipation of other road users

having said that, I also ride without my baffle, but only because it might provide a little more power and it sounds cool lol

 

Totally agree if they cant see you at least they stand a chance of hearing you lol my Arrow system was noise tested at Brands on an evening trackday 102 max and it went 105 yet for mots as long as its got a full size plate which goes on before and comes off after i get an advise for a noisy pipe it is deffo down to the tester and its good that some of them like yourself use sensible discression
