Hi Guys, I want to get forks upgrade for my CB1000R (yes it is CB not CBR), because Ohlins does not make forks for CB I had a look for what are my options, after few days of digging and asking many people for differences I found out that I can fit fireblade forks to my bike but I need to install 320mm discs from fireblade! I have rear Ohlins shock already and want to get forks, found a shop which has ex display FGRT813 which been offered for £1988 inc VAT(they suggested RRP of £2651 for 813's) and brand new FGRT204 for £2225 inc VAT. The ex display 813's have tiny scratch on the Ohlins sticker and one blue adjuster has slightly faded which is not a big problem really. I can't find definitive answer on the internetz which one to choose. Found one post saying that FGRT204 are 10 times better as they have NIX internals and another post that FGRT813 are better as they are bulletproof etc. I am riding my bike on the street mainly, I may do track day or two but 95% is street riding. I want to get best forks for the money really and need expert advice on which forks to get and why. Big thanks for help! Andy
IMHO your are wasting your money chucking that sort of coinage at a non Sports bike. You will just not get any value out of them on a chassis such as the CB1000. A Blade yes, especially if U Track one but for Street Riding I doubt you'd even be able to tell.
Well this is not really answer to the question is it. ;-) I don't think that I'm wasting money on a machine which I will spend at least 3 hours a day every day on, this has to be me having fun on it not counting minutes till I get to the destination. Commuter does not have to be boring crap with no balls. I have Ohlins HO808 at the back and now I want to put best forks I can on the front and mild turbo installation next year if I don't change my mind.
Phone kais and speak to Andy and he will put ya right, straight from horses mouth.sinewave and myself have used them no probs. we'll I get mine done Saturday and trust what sine wave says he gives good advise but that's my opinion from someone who,s done it and worn t shirt,I agree in a way u won't really tell diff on street unless you on track then diff ball game bud
In that case go with the cheapest as a CB1000R will never be able to touch the true performance capabilities of either. Both these Forks are designed for Max fade free performance of a Sports Bike on Track so either will give U what U want.
Hehe so lets say "in theory" if I would put it on the blade. ;-) Which one is better? Any pros/cons on any of them? On 1000rr.com someone said 204's are 10 times better as they have nix internals... price difference is 200 quid so not a lot comparing to the total expense! There should be an option to create survey on the thread lol and take votes who would buy which forks. Also another thing is will the stock spring be ok for my weight - 95-100kg with my bike gear. Thanks for help again guys!!
Get the bulket proof ones mate. If your after the bilingy look and do a lot of riding. Save having to keep whipping them out for seals etc... My pal has a sit up superduke r with Ohlins front and rear and brembos .. It's awesome fun on the lanes etc. More then keeps up with the sports bikes and pulls wheelies effortlessly . Looks almost graceful . I'd have a cb1000 if the riding position gets uncomfortable in my later years . Enjoy yourself with what ever you do
I totally understand why you want to do this. I dont think its a waste of money if you get joy everyday from seeing them on the bike even if they dobt add performance. I would go for the cheaper option here
There obviously a market for well sorted naked, triumph don't do bad with the speed r Can't help too much with which options sorry, but I think if you have the money go for it. Quality upgrades will always improve the bike IMO. All about enjoyment of ownership. And a well sorted naked can be devastating on the road in the right hands... Couple my pals have shown up many a "sports bike" always cracks me up lol
On the technical and feeling point , the 204 are really better , but don't forget all ohlins fork are great forks at the start.....
The OP is in the right direction, good quality suspenders and stoppers, will out do any amount of power you add to your machine, unless you are just launching on a strip, because as the old adage goes and always holds true Power is nothing without control. Learnt that to my own cost many many years ago, top notch suspension and brakes strip lap time faster than 10 or 20 bhp, and it is even more marked on the road with such variable surfaces.
Love the CB but then I had the exact same one I would go for the 204 I as the nix kit is supposedly better but if you can get a good deal on the 813 I doubt there bad forks I know why your doing it and I loved thrashing the CB
200 quid less for having ex display is not big enough difference to go for them. If they were 1500... CB is awesome bike, everyone who had one will miss it. ))
Yes motorway is not so good, thats why I got that little screen installed and thats why I'm thinking about superbike next to it....
Another question, fireblade forks total uncompressed length is 20mm less than cb1000r forks. Will that make the bike handle differently? The top fork tube is the same but bottom bit that travels is 20mm shorter.
Can you not fit a Ktech internal kit? This is more popular with road racers as ohlins stuff is typical made for silky smooth tracks and not the best for the road. Ive a ktech 25 SSK kit and its awesome..
