Its been going through my head all week since the ACU that I really didn't gel with the R6. It felt really vague and mega high up. Was hardly scratching my sliders and was 10-15 seconds down off my best. Anyone had this before with a new bike? The suspension is set up for a 6ft 15 stone rider atm and im 5'8 and 10 stone so this might have a bearing. The rear sets were also too far back. Just hope I can sort it and havent bought the wrong bike. Booked at cadwell for the 9th as of tomorrow so hopefully it's dry and I'll pay to get it setup properly. Fingers crossed cos at this rate I'll be getting lapped at brands..
Set up wrong and new bike mate will take time to gel with but with the weight it's set up for it must feel rock hard . It didn't stop you getting it up on the back wheel though .Just try and get enough track time before you race and you both will become one .
Sometimes my bike just doesn't feel right, even happens sometimes after a rest break and I'm certain it's me and not the bike. Saying that your suspension would be rather hard if it was set up for the previous owner, ditto the rearsets will need adjusting. You'll get it right in the end.
My gsxr600 k4 is my future track bike and it spent the winter trying to kill me. I took it to a garage and they laughed at the setup, literally hardest setting on front, not helped by dire need of fork oil change. Much much better now.
Dude, get Phil Crowe on the puppy, he set up 3 or 4 R6's last year and supported them throughout the year, two of them won championships.
Is he 100% suspension?? Tbh mate ill just be using whichever tech guy is there on the 9th. Best be dry lol
The R6 will take some getting used to. I find even now that I seem to sit on it rather than in it. Suspension set up is crucial, even more so for racing than track days. Stick with it and it will come together. It won't happen overnight, but give it some time and you will be amazed at how good the R6 is.
Convinced you have the right bike mate. And got to be set up as the last thing you'd normally hear about r6's is its vague compared to a Suzuki IMO. As said get it set up for you and will improve no end. Remember it's still early in year so temps are low. Learning a new bike. All that going on with acu. You are rusty.... Felt the same on my acu day mate, just need to get dialed in I'm sure.
I love the sit on feel compared to sit in... That just feels so out of date IMO. Weird how we all like / feel natural on diff bikes hey
The R6 is a sit on and not sit in bike. I find it has an aggressive seat position. I did 3 sessions on one and didn't' gel to it, and bearly had one knee down, but I'm sure you will get there. Get the suspension done and it will be better, although I'm not to sure if they can make the change from 15 to 10 with a few clicks. Get your credit card out as you'll be needing new springs.... Maybe wait to sell the blade until after the 9th
For the final time I am NOT tracking the blade!!! Its too much power for my unhinged throttle hand to deal with!!
Stick with it mate. I'm sure you'll be fine. As skip says how "set up" was it for the previous owner? Skip - out of interest mate, other than blade, what bikes you had previous?? It's strange, I'm not exactly lanky yet I found the r6 the easiest bike ever for knee down? Road or track.....
I think a lot of it is just that it was cold and partially wet and ACU day so I didn't lean it over as much as I normally would.
As said about 5 times mate, I think it's exactly that. Don't over think it, just try and get out on 9th and enjoy it!!! Don't put pressure on yourself before first even race. Majority of the grid on r6's can't be wrong just need to gel mate
No mate he isn't 100, I wouldn't use them if they were last suspension people in the world. Crowey will assess you on track as well as off it to see what your suspension is doing.
