Just a quickie guys an gals,

I've read the JHS oil change thing in the last Fast Bikes and they say that after an oil change rather than fire the bike up, crank the engine then check the oil level. How is this done on a Blade?

I saw the other tip on here about filling the new filter with the fresh oil first and tried this and was suprised at how much oil it actually consumed but I did pre-oil the O ring too out of habit but JHS say don't bother

Anway, rambling again. I've just changed my oil out but not fired it up yet but was thinking about the cranking thing??

Pretty sure you Turn it over with the kill switch on so It doesn't produce a spark

As above^^ it runs the oil round the internals.Coating everything it should coat. This stops a certain amount of wear mainly top of gearbox and engine when firing up after a long spell unused.

Ignition on and kill switch on and press ignition..turn it over for 5-10 seconds and as sideways days it will chuck oil around ..

Operate kill switch and try start as normal, it will turn over but not fire, ask my mate about when I left him in petrol station and he couldn't understand why bike wouldn't start :)

Thanks, I'm getting my logic with the kill switch arse about face, to kill the engine the switch must be on.

BTW the kill switch also stops the fuel pump from priming.
be carefull about cranking the enging for too long as you will run out of battery.
the only reason i can think for doing this is to get the oil circulated a bit and possibly avoid the oil pressure switch from tripping.
as far as level are concered, well if you put in the amount specified in the handbook, the level should be right unless you haven't drained the oil properly:) which of course you wouldn't do
