    Hi folks,
have just joined to pick brains and garner some of your well earned experience in owning and riding the Fireblade.
Just coming off a VFR800 and have been hankering after a 'blade for some time and am about to pull the trigger on a 2012 HRC coloured ABS model at Grantham Honda.

    HONDA CBR 1000 cc CBR1000RRADE.

Perhaps unwisely, I have picked up on the whole oil burning issue (I have looked at specific threads on this forum) which is sowing some seeds of doubt into my best laid plans, so I was wondering if anyone had had any knowledge of this particular bike which I believe was first registered in Reading. I'm aware that there is a good degree of luck involved in any bike purchase and my hope is that my worries are unfounded but I feel it stupid of me not to ask around first, you never know.Your comments/help will be much appreciated.:D

    Paul

Welcome along to another lincolnshire blade owner, quite a few of is on here, as for the oil issue this was mainly with the earlier bikes so if you're looking at a 2012 model you should be fine

Welcome. Didn't think 12s had an oil burning issue as it was the older one, mind you it wouldn't be the first time I was wrong. Now ABS could open a while new can of worms.

Hi Paul welcome. I don't know much about later models but i'm not aware of problems on the 2012. I am sure most guys on here will know a lot more than me about it, and will put your mind at ease. When you get it enjoy it.

Welcome I've got a 2012 and it's not used a drop of oil, as said earlier the ABS can be a bit of a problem, especially if you have to do something with it.

Many thanks for the welcome. Is your current bike an ABS model? and if so what problems have you encountered?
Will do a forum search for problems.
    Cheers
    Paul

Sounds like the ABS issue is even bigger than the oil burning. Seeds of doubt well and truly watered and germinating fast. I could easily talk/read myself out of this:confused:

I have a 2011 and the oil is fine. It's a non ABS version though, so cannot comment on that.
I will say though, I wouldn't let it put you off a blade. They are pretty damn good bikes. If you are worried, just get a non ABS one :D

    Oh and welcome aboard

Thanks Jonnymac, I had the same thought:), dealer I'm looking at also has a 58 reg non ABS with 13000 on the clock and I'm saving nearly £3000 but looks nowhere near as foxy as the 62 reg HRC ABS.
Will make a decision soon and will be sure to post pics:D
    Thanks for the welcome.

Welcome to the forum Paul, I think you'll find that as long as it says fireblade on the side you'll be happy with whichever one you choose.

I am interested by the oil burning comments. My 2012 used more oil than previous bikes I have owned. I thought it was usual for these high revving engines to use a bit more oil in the cylinders to allow for slicker piston rings. I reckon I was using about 300ml per 1000 miles, even more when you throw in a track day.
BTW welcome to the forum. Buy the bike!
