All, Just a quick note. After a ride over to castle combe 2 weekends ago I wrapped the bike up for a wet week. Come the saturday that has just gone , nice sunny weather, I was heading out for a blast only to find that the blade wouldn't start. The lights came on but there was no one home, all the switches seemed to work and the display worked but I was getting no fuel pump priming. I had Her recovered to the nearest Honda Dealer "Blade Honda" in reading The service they provided was top notch , (Helen thanks for keeping me upto date). Turns out that this issue was with the Main Harness being corroded and the live wire for the fuel pump being so bad that it broke off Honda paid for the repair , was in warranty by 1 day, they had to replace the whole main harness, as Honda hadn't seen this issue before they had photos taken. I just wanted to point out another area to look at if any one has these issue.
That my man is...................piss poor and shocking for a 2012 bike!!!. Do you park it on the promenade or use it for jet skiing?
gosh pal that looks terrible. have you taken you bike for a swim in the sea? i suspect your corrosion is salt related. i suggest you put a layer of afc50 on your electrical connectors (with a small paint brush)
Zippy submerged his. submarine like, and I bet it does not look like that.....when you wash it do not add salt to soften the water
The worry is that bar one trip to weymouth (on a cold but dry and sunny day) the bike as far as I know has never seen salt water, yes I ride in the rain and through the winter but soon as im back she gets doused in a lots of cold water and dried off as best as I can, I don't have a garage but she is always covered with a waterproof bike cover and wrapped up tight. First month that I have a spare few quid she will get professional cleaned and have the full shiny bike syndrome service Motorcycle valet in the Berkshire area | Shiny Bike Syndrome I shocked that given the bike is only 3 years old how bad the connections were. My daytona has.... was (still bitter at have to get rid of her) sitting in the same spot for 3 years with no rust like that. The connection was on the underside of the fuse and relays box so im a little surprised that an electrical area as sensitive as that is not water proof. Maybe ill have to become a fairweather rider on the blade and find my self a hack for getting to and from work.
Don't think the water proof cover helped much, most probably trapped the moisture in to do it's evil work :-( Looking at the photo it would seem that the connector has been sat in water, we've had similar issue at work with water ingress into cabin areas of BMW cars and getting into electronic modules.
if you bought your bike second hand, maybe the previous owner used the wrong product for cleaning the bike, like washing up liquid which is full of salt! the white powdery stuff is usually as a result of salt corrosion. the horrible stuff they spray on the road at a drop of a hat stays there for days if not weeks depending on how much it rains even on a bone dry day, the salt is kicked off the tarmac by car & truck tyres like dust and nicely travel through the air to deposit itself on all the hidden parts. good idea to have the cleaning done. i noticed they spray afc50 as well which is your solution. a bit late now but suggest you have a cleaning & protection spray done in autumn making sure the electricals are also coated. if you wrap your bike overnight, don't forget ventilation is important to dry moisture out and stop condensation. generally honda's are known for their quality but not defect proof. hopefully your problem was a one off and you will have uninterrupted enjoyment from your rr let us know how you get on with the newbury chap
A load of hondas got flood damaged at Lings Honda in suffolk, but that was 3 months ago, so cant have anything to do with yours. All the bikes apparently got written off, but you can bet a few are being sold as normal elsewhere
