Hi, I have this '04 1000RR with 41,xxxx km on the clock. No smoke, pulling like crazy when revved. But below cca 2.700 rpm, when I get on the throttle, it behaves like a V2 or my ex-VFR. I mean running rough, funny "cross-plane-crank-like" uneven vibrations. I bought it with 18.000 kms and this was already present, but maybe just below 2.000 rpm. Maybe unrelated, but it seems to me as if the bike was running just a tad hotter in city these days (compared to similar ambient temps this time last year). Only engine mod is a flapper mod, and that was done about 2-2.5 years ago. Stock pipe, stock everything.
OK, so I sent this one too early. Is this normal? Girlfriend's ex-CBR600F4i runs silk smooth from idle to rev limiter cutting in. So that would run smooth from, say, 1.400 rpm. Not much torque but no jerking either. To be honest, I've never ridden another SC57, so I don't know if this is a feature or a bug.
A few hundred kms ago. Actually, then the bike also had the throttle bodies synced. I wouldn't swear to this, but V2-ing may have just been a tad worse since then. It's nothing like the bike would stall, or not pull, just the vibration and the uneven-firing-like phenomenon (hence my analogy with the VFR low rpm feeling).
Breaking news. For the first time this year, I filled the Blade up with standard fuel instead of the "premium" stuff I've been using so far. I've been using Shell V-Power 95 and 100, and today I filled her up with standard 95 "FuelSave" (which is just the ordinary petrol you can buy here at Shell stations). To my surprise, the V-like low-rpm shaking and roughness was only present below 2.000 rpm, which is pro'ly agreeable. I'm surprised though. I could understand the opposite (higher octane fuel smoothing out things), but I'm quite perplexed by this phenomenon. Of course, I'll have to verify and double-check by using the other stuff again, then normal stuff again, but for the time being, does anyone have an explanation? Have a nice weekend all!
Is it possible that your petrol station has some water in they're tanks? I know that the local petrol station to me has water in they're premium fuel tanks after twice finding my Subaru misfiring using theyre fuel.
Was gonna try a different station, but your comment further pushes me in that direction. Also, my bike seemed to run a few degs lower today in towns. Less V2-like virbation, more gorowling sound @ low revs, lower engine temp... I know this sound a bit paranoid, but that's what I experienced.
I'd give it a try mate. I had all sorts of worrying when it happend with the car. I even phoned the garage I bought the car from, and had it booked in. Only for me to refill closer to work and it was back to normal.
Well, mine is an '04, which should be the same as the '05, so now we can say that this is a common experience.
