I assume you can't use an optimate with a LiPo battery? So is there an equivalent maintenance charger for LiPo?
They do a Optimate LiPo but you will have to budget it into the cost if you have an Alarm etc, lots of my customers run them as is, I went back to a lead batt last week for some testing reasons and tbh the way the bike turns over etc with the LiPo its a must have.
Just make sure it's a good one. Do your homework on the battery spec and make sure the CCA, (cold cranking amps) is at least 130. My dealer fitted a cheapo "Powerroad" battery, never heard of them but the useless piece of **** only had 90 CCA and was only good for one start, if i rode just a few miles it wouldn't start the bike it needed at least 20 miles worth of charge in it to have a chance of starting the bike. The 150 CCA battery i've got now, a Lucas one, has no troubles.
I sell the Ultrabatt lithium batteries and I'm very impressed with the new ones that came out earlier this year. Ultrabatt Lithium Ultralite Batteries They come in modules - each one is 114 x 30 x 91mm and 430g. You'll need 2 for a 1000RR and the RRP is £159.99 for the twin pack. They clip together and all the fittings are in the packs and the terminals can be set in various different ways. I've also got my own lithium chargers available, see them here on eBay - Lightweight Race Lithium Motorcycle Battery Charger | eBay And my special offer that I've run on Facebook and the like is 50% off the charger when buying the 2 batteries together. That's a Ultrabatt 2XUB-12120MM + charger for £182.39 P&P is up to £9 now as lithium batteries are tricky to post with many carriers including the Royal Mail refusing to send them.
thats one expensive battery! i am about to buy this.. CTZ10-S YTZ10-S Motobatt Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade 04 as i dont have £100 to spend on a lipo..
Motobatt batteries are good too, nowhere near as lightweight as a lithium but powerful all the same. Just as an aside, beware anything called a LiPo battery as they are the ones that have a history of exploding or catching fire. Lithium Iron phosphate (LifeP04) is what you want, much safer chemistry.
Fair point, if you are looking for a reduction in weight then maybe...I know if I was I would first start with my stomach..lol
Ended up ordering a motobatt battery today, they seem well reviewed. if u was ordering a lithium battery, I would need a new charger too, so that was an extra expense. thanks for the help guys.
Whatever you do, don't let that Motobatt go flat as it'll never recover... They make a decorative door stop when they do...
