Well due to too much work and more work my lurking has become less and less to a extent that admin sent me a mail saying were are you Well to smooth things over here is a few pics after 3 hours and 2 cans of GUNK and a toothbrush later I got it off a mate who had lost interest in it when it packed up at Sainsburys petrol station. It would not start turn over yes spark yes but nothing else. Its was pushed into the corner were it sat for nearly a year uncovered So far ive dropped the oil and changed the filter changed the air filter un seized the rear sliders on the caliper and will replace the rear pads as well. Ive also ordered a 3 way diode or in English a fuel pump relay as he said the pump was buzzing but no priming buzz ???? is there a filter in the tank or the pump as there is no external one ??? Anyway im waiting on a battery now before i can turn it over , im going to pop the plugs out to get the oil around the motor and go from there. I think some new fairing bolts are needed in stainless and quite a few hours TLC . Any ideas on the starting issue would be great
Dump petrol buy fresh, bang some new plugs in with a spark and new battery give this a try as your first stop then if no luck start looking at fuel pump etc good luck
The kill switch will stop the pump priming and if its been sat outside covered in crap then the switch may need a good clean inside or even replacing Check the simple bits first
Well i popped the new battery in last night and switched it on and at least the dash is fine. The bike has done 35k so thats 2700 a year. I filled it with new oil now im just waiting for the new fuel pump replay. I did notice the side stand switch wires had pulled out the body of the plug so i will either repair or solder them together if that works.
It still needs a lot of cleaning , I did sit on it tonight and its a bit tight as im .6.2. Im use to my Africa Twin so if its to hard on the wrist I will sell it on but I need to get it to how I want first. First off I need it running then i will get the wheels out and clean those and the inside of the forks and swings arm. New were is the pesky postman with my relay !
Yes check the relay, headlight relay is the same so could swap them over. Listen for a click from the relay as you push the kill switch to run. Check the tilt sensor that will kill the pump if its failed too. On the 1000 you can jumper the two outer wires to bypass I suspect it's the same for 929 also.. If it's in neutral when you start it side stand switch wont effect anything so make sure the neutral light is also working as if the bike thinks its in gear and the wires are off the stand could be an issue.. And good luck well worth spending some time to sort it
Ok on that lamb hop , the postmans been this morning with the diode or fuel pump relay , Christ it's small with 3 spades ok so wear does that go ?
I feel your pain, the blade I have just acquired has sat for three years, and the cleaning you wont believe, luckily it starts but I got a list of jobs from hell to get her good.
Been in the office this afternoon , ive removed the Datatool alarm simply because I don't trust the connections and it looks like Stevey Wonder installed it soldered up the few connection then used shrink rap to seal. I removed the plugs only to put some oil down the bores and I was told these were replaced 1000 miles ago. Year right say no more so will order some tomorrow. I cleaned out the throttle bodies with carb cleaner and using a toothbrush then covered them in GT85 wicked smell then blown it all clean using the airline. Ive removed the pump from the tank to get the foul smelling fuel out. I plugged in the pump but not before checking to see if I had power. Ive got battery voltage from one of the 3 wires on the connection. Turning it over and the pump is not priming or working So can I put this down to a shagged pump ? so do I get a second hand pump ?
