I'm thinking of changing the stock exhaust on my 12 plate blade, with my previous bikes I have always gone the power commander route with a custom map.A mate of mine has in the last year changed exhausts on two bikes, but had the ECU re mapped instead of a PCV,he has been very happy with the results, the company that did it reckon that the software they use has a self learning mode that automatically up grades the ECU with every mod, sounds like white mans magic to me,but not knowing s**t from mud when it comes to bike electrics thought I would run it past you guys. The only positive I can definitely say about the re map is it's cheaper which is why I'm considering it,what do you think?
I did not think that a ecu flash was out for the fire blade ,I inquired about this last year when my mate had his BMW flashed with a genie and the company said it was not possible on the blade.
My Genius by Dimsport Technology - What is Dyno Race? www.dimsport.com/mygenius/ My Genius is the natural evolution of New Genius: a new console for car's owners , allowing independent serial reading & programming operations. There was no flash for blade but this was 4 months ago I can't remember a well known race team for honda and he said there was no ecu flash for blade as yet pcv
Ok,thanks guys, sounds like the PCV is the only option, think my mate forgot to tell the guy it was for a blade, didn't actually speak to him personally.
Ecunleashed seem to do them there was something about them in fast bikes the other month. http://ecunleashed.com/product/2011-honda-cbr1000rr-2/ Tim
Having your ecu flashed is the better option but having the ecu flashed and then a pc is by far the best option.... This is the best way i can explain it for power gains. If your ecu is limited to giving your bike say 80% power in other words your bike is limited which all manufactures do then it doesn't matter what add on you then have, (eg power commander) your only ever going to receive 80% power. So a flashed ecu can correct that to allow you 100% power, this can only be done at the ecu and not with a power commander or anything else that i know of...... However just for an exhaust change is it worth it???? I too don't know anyone doing the flash for honda....
Thanks Matt, the evidence is waying heavily toward the PCV,I will give the guy a ring tomorrow,he will no doubt confirm what you guys have told me.
Just the hrc ecu on std loom is also possible.. I have it Some things like automatic fan control don't work with the hrc ecu (no need for it in racing) Pcv and properly tuned custom map also provides very good results and is cheaper too
I wouldn't really agree with your logic there Matt, A PC or similar device intercepts the signals coming out of the ECU and alters them before they get to the injectors. This means where the ECU may only be wanting to issue a small amount of fuel the PC intercepts that signal and adjusts it to say a larger amount of fuel for a given throttle position/RPM! That is basically what the fuel map inside the PC does its a table that tell the PC how much fuel to either add or remove from the intercepted ECU signal! If I recall right dynojet can increase or decrease the ECU fuel signal by +/- 250%. On a side note BladeJogger another option instead of the the dynojet power commander is the Bazzaz fuel unit which can include traction control and a quick shifter in one complete package.
Many bikes can have the standard ECU remapped, to what level depends on the manufacture and software used to remap it, most standard ECU remaps use specific software and the code it rewrites is highly complex, depending on software, interface needed and the dyno will seriously limit who and where it can be remapped IF you had a bike that this can be done with. As far as I know no one can read the raw code or remap the standard Blade ECU, also unlike say a GSXR the Honda ECU does not have limiters like gear position and revs for example, so no gear position trickery is required to un limit revs on the blade as far as I am aware, maybe things have change, and they often do over time. Bikes like the 848/1098 etc for example can have any number of throttle positions and rev positions as the user/dyno operator requires, the PCV for example has 10 throttle positions for each 250RPM this table is mapped to correct your air and fuel ratio (AFR), so say throttle position 1 at 1500RPM may need to be 10% more fuel, then throttle position 1 at 1750RPM may need 15% and so on until a table is built up for each throttle position for the whole rev range, if you want to make it more complex you can have a table for each gear, then you could push the engine for peak power in 6th and smooth power in the lower gears. Now lets say you need to adjust between throttle position 1 and 2, well on the Ducati you can just add another and map it, on the PCV you can't! HOWEVER you never normally need to, I am just giving you an example of how fine and how different things can be from one method to another. The PCV can add or remove fuel from the lower or primary injectors, this is all that is need on a stock motor with after marked exhaust and filter, its possible to add a secondary fuel module to control the uppers as well should you need to, some other manufactures claim they map the upper injectors with one module however unlike the PCV's SFM they can not be controlled separately so the dyne tuner is somewhat limited, its more a selling point for those who like to say the system maps all 8 injectors as standard unlike the PCV that only maps 4 on its own, its not relevant for most of us. Systems like Tuneboy have been around for ages for Triumph and a number of others and lets the user reprogram many of the features of the standard ECU's (not Honda) it will even let you control warning lights, fan trip temps and even the welcome message shown on the dash when you switch on. The great thing about a power commander is nearly all if not all dyno tuners can interface with it (plug in the dyno) and understand how to map it, a major bonus that the tuner does not have to learn the software. PCV is a great option to control the fuelling of a bike, after all in many cases its the only way to add or remove fuel and map your bike for your new exhaust, removing flat spots and making for a nicer ride, as a result of good fuel and air mixture you may or may not get more power, what ever the power your bike will be smoother and easier to ride. As said it does this by intercepting the injectors pules signals, the PCV receives them from the ECU and shortens or lengthens the timings sent to the injectors. Even the HRC ECU has limitations when it comes down to mapping and from what I am told it too can benefit from a PCV.. Hope that helps
Blade jogger ask your mate which company done the flash? I would be a bit suspect and stick to proven like dynojet or bazzfi similar bud better than wrecking your bike an ecu is one expensive bit of kit and not friendly on your pocket
Blade jogger go to Paul at malton dynobike he will sort you out only 15 up the road from you lovely bloke and knows his stuff
Thanks for all the info guys,It is nice to have impartial in depth knowledge from guys who know what they are on about without some bloke spouting crap in order to sell you something,The tuning place is Hill Top somewhere near Leicester?Graeme,Paul at Malton is the guy who I normally use, always does a good job, think it looks like I will be going back to him!
Apparently my ECU was remapped by Honda before it was sold to the previous owner. But I'm unsure on that one... I was considering getting a PCV of Buzzah (sp) and getting it looked at to see what changes can be made. What you say it is cheaper... how much are you looking at?
Just an update, rang the ecu mapper today, didn't actually speak to the organ grinder but one of his side kicks who said he could remap the ecu because it was the Mitsubishi type?,for the princely sum of £360.I'm not saying the guy speaks with forked tongue as this is his business and if he was trying to shaft me or any other potential customer he would eventually get caught out.I should have asked a few more questions but was expecting him to say no can do so took me by surprise a little bit, does he mean he could possibly do a limited re map or is even that not doable?
Lost me there blade jogger thought it was not possible but things may have changed,I would personally go down the PVC route
