    Afternoon folks,

I am currently torn between taking my beloved SP to Europe this month or hiring a VFR1200 with full panniers, top box set up. The reason I posted this is because I have never had luggage on any previous bikes and my options seems quite limited if I was to buy some and take the SP.

Any of you guys done long miles with your blades and what luggage setup did you use??

    Cheers

    Danny

Can the seat pad from a standard blade fit?

If so here's what I go with. It's a rentec rack and Kriega US30. I've added a US20 to this also if needed for any longer stays.

Cheers Colin, Im pretty sure the standard seat pad will fit (will need to source one though).

I looked at the Kreiga stuff earlier and it mentioned fitting without a rack but I was concerned about the straps rubbing against the tail. Is that why you plumped for the rack too?

I belive The SP has no subframe as such, well certainly not for a rack of any description.

So either strap direct onto a venture shielded to death rear end body work? Or buy a rucksack.

Or you could just sent the luggage ahead with the chauffeur ;)

If you don't use the rack you end up bending the seat up when you tighten the straps.
You can get the rentec without the shelf type grill at the back if you don't fancy that bit.

Essentially the rack is only needed for the straps to be tightened onto.

    Good point Gary

Danny you would need to make sure there are provisions for the rack first.

Would the lighter hole ridden subframe spars hold the extra weight of luggage?

Just a thought as the non sp spars are also designed with carrying a pillion so would handle luggage weight as if its a pillion!

You'd have to fit one of them "Honda Comfort Seat" Danny, 3 hours a few week ago on my SP and I just can't describe how sore my ass was :-(

There isn't Colin, I'm not sure a pillion seat would be fitting either, as there are no provisions for two up.

Seriously,I went through all this with Kevin at Preston Honda, a couple of months back.
And due to the fact I couldn't tour with it as I wanted to, like my present blade and I had to let the chauffeur go due to cut backs I left it in the shop

That said, there are some clever peeps around these parts, and I bet there's someone in the shadows with a good way of hitting this small issue?

Yes. As jay said a VFr will be a dammed more comfortable esp as sp sus is set up pretty hard I know which I would choose and nee flat spots on your tyres still a lot of straight roads before you reach twistys

Tour on the Blade - scratch on arrival, travel light, go to supermarkets to buy new clothes, throw the dirty ones away / give to the homeless

Or use FlyBikeFly.com and jet into Nice to meet your bike

Trust me - a blade is a perfect touring weapon...

I'd personally take the SP, somehow.

Although agree that you could have loads of fun on a VFR, you won't know what your missing if you don't get the blade on those european roads.

Before had the renntec I found the seat curling, what would we do without gaffer tape for a quick fix?[IMG]

I have a long weekend in Cochem planned at the end of June . I would love to take the blade but my wife and two young lads are going aswell so it's gonna be the Nissan Qashqai.

Whichever you choose have a great time.
